Anti-war crowd; far left fringe of the democratic party? + papers that get quoted on C-span
All weekend on the talk shows I kept hearing the talking heads, Russert included, say that the Dems were unable to voice their plans because they couldn't afford to offend the far left anti-war get them out now crowd. I was under the impression that get them out now was more of a mainstream American position.

Papers that get quoted on c-span.
It seems that lots of right wing papers and magazines get read in the morning on c-span. I never hear them read any left leaning papers. I can't even name one. Plus they never seem to quote from the Nation and other left mags. They seem to quote more right wing think tank information also.

It seems we have an uphill battle to get the same respect that the right gets so freely without earning it. They are wrong most of the time.

1. How could they possible piss off the Anti War crowd any more
than they already have?

Broken promises

Impeachment off the table

Continued support of war funding

Have EARNED IT.

Whether you like the way they reached their goal or not,
this is one of the best organized Machines politically.

They worked at this for years. First the RR organized in every
state. Starting at Municpal Level they started pushing their
own candidates at School Board Level. This gave them politcal
experience to move up to all levels including State and National
Representatives. Trained Candidates and helped them win.

This means that all the individual groups of cultural conservatives
agreed to unite on certain issues to be emphasized in National
Campaigns. Each group may have different interests but they
unite once and issue is decided.

They work directly with the Party, Congress and WH.
During the Bush ADM they have had Representation every Tuesday
AM at WH. Adm can secure their assistance in pushing their
issues and RR can secure assurance that ADM will push their
issues. For example, Iran--for months or longer the
Televangelists have been explaining and selling the necessity
of war with Iran. Hagee, Fundamentalist with a Mega Mega
Following has been giving a history of Iran and has a Picture
of Ahmadenojahd who he calls the NEW HITLER. Other Televeangeists
quote him and give the negative spiel on Iran. So anything
the Pres. does, he will get support from his base.

Here is another feature. Tom Brokaw once explained on C-SPan
that the Righties are so organized that Brent Bozell can make
a couple of strokes on his computer and NBC, CBS and ABC will
be so flooded with EMail that it can overwhelm the system.
Brokaw says they can threaten to turn off TVs and the Network
will see their audience leave. Could this be why the Networks
appear to favor the RR. It is not favoritism, it is dollars
in advertising. CNN had the experience during the Clinton
Monica Lewinsky Mess: If they had a favorable report on
Clinton their audience disappeared instantly.

One has to say the Righties earned it. It takes dedication
to pull something like this off.

Do the Lefties have the same zeal and willingness to cooperate??

4. Has there been any reporting about the fact that Moveon.org ponied up
the balance of the charge VOLUNTARILY and yet Rudy Giuliani DEMANDED the same, illegal price for an ad?

Not in the "liberal biased" media ...

5. the "conventional" wisdom and "respectable" opinion of the insular
Edited on Mon Oct-01-07 10:25 AM by Douglas Carpenter
I have spent years pondering how opinion that is supported by either the vast majority or sometimes - at the very least- a large minority of say 40% or greater - can be so casually represented as "far left", "fringe" "extremist" or whatever.

It appears to me anyway that ideas that are within the consensus of established power such as the Washington beltway and vigorously supported by the media that supports that consensus are deemed by this rather insular and myopically focused world as "respectable" opinion no matter how unpopular. While opinion - no matter how popular - that challenges or defies the consensus of established power such as the Washington beltway and is not supported by the media that supports this insular worldview - are viewed as at least a bit beyond the pale.

Power creates insularity and myopic thinking by nature.

If we take a totally different example, say single-payer-universal-health-care, although poles virtually without exception show that even most Republicans support this extremely popular concept which has the backing of the overwhelming majority - it is opinion that so defies the interest of established power and their sycophants - the insular world of established power cannot even conceive that they are the ones on the fringe and out of the mainstream - no matter how irrefutable the evidence. It is just too much cognitive dissonance.

However unfortunately when the "opinion makers" constantly repeat these mimes it still nonetheless has great affect in convincing large numbers of people that their ideas are out of the mainstream.

6. It's been going on since the 80's -- "Layoffs are good for workers"
Since the 1980's we have been subjected to a steady and relentless stream of crap that is totally illogical, but repeated so often than people assume it must be true.

"Monopolistic mergers are necessary to preserve competition."

"Layoffs are good for workers."

"Pay no attention to those CEO salaries at the expense of everyone else. Those CEO's deserve it."

Blah, blah,blah.

Many people have been told so often: "Who are you going to believe? Me or your lying eyes?" that common sense and common decency have been marginalized by the Elite.
