Biden nears front-runners in legislative endorsements in Iowa
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden is still in the single digits in Iowa, but he's giving the front-runners a run -- when it comes to endorsements from state lawmakers.

Only Hillary Rodham Clinton has gathered more than Biden, who has the backing of 10 legislators including the Iowa House majority leader. That ties him with Barack Obama and puts him ahead of John Edwards.

Biden says the endorsements demonstrate that local politicians think he has a shot at gaining the nomination. The Delaware senator told The Associated Press that state lawmakers wouldn't be endorsing him if they didn't think he could win in Iowa.

Biden is making his second bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

1. I'm not a Biden supporter but I think he will do remarkably well in Iowa.

5. I don't get it - how can he have so many endorsements yet continue to poll so low?
Do endorsements not help?

8. For the caucuses, Iowa isn't a big endorsement state - unless the people who endorse
actually go out and recruit supporters (making calls, speaking as a surrogate, knocking doors). It's pretty labor intensive, just lending a name doesn't mean diddly.

10. Typically most Iowans don't make up their minds until the last weeks or days..
that's why you'll see a large amount of undecided's in Iowa polls. But most Iowans are pretty direct and practical, and like what we perceive to be a straight shoooter..and if Biden is anything, he's that. I think he will do well-especially if his campaign puts on the full-court press the last three weeks or so in Iowa, and doesn't back off in favor of New Hampshire.

14. I hope that is the case
So far he has indicated that he was putting his focus and energy on Iowa.

16. Perhaps many still have a problem with his DLC ties and bills like the bankruptcy bill...

I know I do. We need someone to take the lead to get rid of corporate America power over our government. Not one who's facilitated them. To me this just looks like a way to to try and dilute the votes not going for Hillary or Obama away from someone like Edwards.
