Richardson should run for the New Mexico senate seat
It would be an easy pickup.

7. Bad timing!
he's got 2 years to go as governor. There's no way he's going to run for that seat now. If he is out of work in 6 years, he might.

8. They're trying to get Tom Udall to run for that senate seat.
If the party manages to draft him they won't need Richardson. He'll beat about anyone that the Repugs throw up against him. He was kind of hesitant about committing when Domenici hadn't committed to retiring but there is a better chance that he'll make the run now that Domenici's retirement is announced.

12. That's the impression I've gotten from his comments too...
He likes to be in the executive seat.

18. I saw in a blog post that the filing deadline was Feb 15th for the Senate race.
If no other capable Democrat throws their hat in the ring and Richardson doesn't do well on the major February 5th primary date, there'd still be time for him to recant his non-running statement and throw his hat in the ring for the Senate Race.
