Joe Biden's Plan for Iraq Wins Approval of Iraqi President!
October 3, 2007
Press Release

Iraq's President Talabani Expresses Support for Biden-Brownback Federalism Amendment

Washington, DC – Today, Senator Joseph R. Biden, Jr., Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, met with Iraqi President Jalal Talabani. President Talabani welcomed the Senate’s approval of the Biden-Brownback amendment last week supporting federalism in Iraq, on a bipartisan vote of 75-23. He expressed his strong belief that the amendment promotes the unity and territorial integrity of Iraq and is not, as some have mischaracterized it, a call for partition. He also emphasized that the amendment is completely consistent with the decision Iraqis have made to adopt a federal form of government in their Constitution.

In addition, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, speaking in Arabic on Tuesday to al-Iraqiyah Television, made the following remarks regarding the Biden-Brownback Federalism Amendment: “They said they welcomed federalism. If federalism is what they really meant, why not? Federalism, after all, is stipulated in the Constitution. We, too, talked about federalism as this is a constitutional issue.”

Senator Biden said, “I welcome President Talabani's support for the Biden-Brownback amendment, and also Prime Minster Maliki's comments. Some – both in the United States and Iraq – have tried to mischaracterize our amendment as calling for the partition of Iraq. It is nothing of the sort. It calls for keeping Iraq together by bringing to life the federal system enshrined in its constitution. A federal Iraq is a united Iraq and the best path to a political settlement that virtually everyone agrees is necessary if we are to leave Iraq without leaving chaos behind.”

1. Interesting development on the issue. Talibani is a Kurd, iirc, so his POV
makes sense in the regional tug of war...and peace.

2. Biden is truly the man who can get things done. What an ambassador - he
seems to be able to dialogue and communicate so well with a variety of foreign leaders.

4. He actually ended up voting against Thomas in the end-
so he made the right decision in the long run. Look it up- there was only one Democrat who voted for Thomas and it wasn't Joe. I do agree that he handled the initial situation w/ not informing the whole commitee about what was going on and trying to keep it quiet as wrong though. If that's the only reason why you don't like Biden then that's really sad. Take a look at what he's accomplished. the Violence against Women act was huge- don't tell me he doesn't see women as equal. He stood up for us and fought for our protection.
As far as all of his other accomplishments go - I could write a book. he's the most qualified, end of story.

9. This is very good news
Biden is definately the most qualified and what this country needs at this time. I'm going to keep saying it but the other candidates are young enough to run at a later time.

5. He was a busy man yesterday
I saw him on Cspan yesterday on the senate floor presenting a resolution about mine resistant vehicles just before he had to rush off and talk to Talabani. He gives multi-tasking a new meaning.

US plans to disintegrate Iraq
Tue, 25 Sep 2007 04:04:42
Senator Joseph Biden
The US Senate is planning to vote on a proposal backed by Democratic Senator Joseph Biden to divide war-torn Iraq based on ethnic lines.

Advocates of the plan, which is to be voted as soon as Tuesday, claim that the plan would allow US troops to eventually go home without leaving chaos behind.

The Plan, which calls for an autonomous federation of Kurdish, Shia and Sunni regions has come under fire by critics, who say Iraq's ethnic groups who live side-by-side in cities and inter-marry are not divided by lines on a map.

The bipartisan Iraq Study Group, which delivered recommendations in December, warned division could trigger mass population flows, the collapse of the Iraqi security forces and ethnic cleansing by strengthened militias.

18. James Baker, head of the Iraq study group, endorses Biden's plan for Iraq.
The Biden plan does not call for division of Iraq, It unifies Iraq. Get your facts straight and stop promoting Bush-falseformation.

8. I can't say I'm a Biden supporter...
because honestly I don't know who I'm going to support..but I have to say I like what I'm hearing and reading about Sen. Biden. He and Obama have my interest more than any other candidate at this point.

for you soon enough. Good luck! All those running bring something to the table (as the saying goes).

11. Biden would make a good Secretary of State
I can't say I liked him being so accommodating for the bankruptcy bill, but on foreign relations Joe Biden has been doing a great job. I'm thinking he's jockeying for a Secretary of State position in the next Democratic administration.

12. Yeah, that bankruptcy bill bothers a lot of people (I trust him to the extent
that I figure he did what he felt was right -- whatever his reasons -- because he's not one to knuckle under) -- On foreign relations I agree, he's doing a fabulous job. God know we need that now -- practically the entire world is disgusted with us.

I'm hoping he's President, but if not I would think it would almost be a given for him to be appointed as SOS. All the other candidates are smart enough to realize he would be a major asset in that position and has the talent, experience and rapport with leaders to begin healing our standing.

15. 65 Senators voted for the bankrupcy reform bill.
Biden saw that passage was inevitable and he used his leverage to get good stuff for small business into the bill.

Obama receives more contributions from financial institutions than all the other candidates.

20. Good news for Biden.
I do not agree with all of the decisions Biden has made in the past, but I am starting to like him more and more. He has more experience, by far, than any of the other candidates running.:applause:

22. The front-runners balloons are about to burst.
While Hillary and Barack and John play word games, Joe Biden has effectively taken over leadership of this country, literally steamrolling George Bush by out-maneuvering him politically. For all intents and purposes, Joe Biden is now running American Foreign Policy. He took over without firing a shot!

I'd like to see anyone of the frontrunners do that.

I have heard Biden say many times that there are just some things worth losing elections over.
He has principles.
