Which Dem candidates do Republicans like the most?
Edited on Sun Oct-07-07 10:57 AM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Dear Abby,

I have become convinced that Hillary Clinton is unelectable because Republicans do not like her. Like all true Democrats, I want to get behind whichever Democratic candidate the Republicans like best, but I am having trouble figuring out which one it is. Can you help?

Thank you,
Concerned in Kennebunkport

1. Dear Concerned in Kennebunkport,
My best advice from you is not to worry about who they like the best, but who stands for the (D) position the most. Go for the candidate that will get boots on the ground working their butts off for the campaign, not the one who barely raises the level of activism to "apathy" and has them all holding their noses to vote.

Love,

Abby

4. My glass is full of hope and despair.
When a nation is founded great ideals, the highest hopes, shooting for the stratosphere, it is only too obvious when dreams are washing around in the gutter. And that is not in itself, a bad thing. For even those with next no hope, yearn for something better. The ghosts of promises made and unfulfilled.

5. Republicans don't like any Democrats
Dear Concerned,

Republicans do not vote for Democrats, which is okay. Remember, only 30 some percent of registered voters describe themselves as Republicans. So we needn't really worry about getting their votes or approval: experienced electoral strategists understand that the game is to get as many of your own supporters out to the booths: you do not waste your time trying to convince people who disagree with you. That is the game, and that is how the Republicans play it, too.

At most, Republicans like a Democratic candidate they think is less electable than their candidate. This holds true for Democrats as well: we'd be happy if the Republicans pick a really shitty candidate.

Under normal circumstances, most Democrats will vote for the Democratic candidate. Most Republicans will vote for the Republican candidate. Independents--currently 32% of the electorate--are the unknown factor.

So, as a liberal/progressive/Democrat, which Republican candidate do you like best? I bet you'll say it's the one who will lose. Problem is, we don't know who that is.
