Bush admin: 'Everybody wants children to have health insurance' - AP
Title is mine.

Leavitt (Health and Human Services Secretary) seeks deal on children's health - AP

By HOPE YEN, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - President Bush's health secretary expressed hope Sunday for a deal with the Democratic-run Congress on expanding children's health insurance even as the House speaker worked to round up enough Republicans to override a veto.

"Everybody wants children to have health insurance," Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt said. "The president has already said, 'I want a compromise.'"...

Leavitt added, "If it takes more money, we'll put it up." He did not cite a figure.

Bush vetoed legislation last week that would increase spending for the State Children's Health Insurance Program by $35 billion over five years. Bush has called for a $5 billion increase...

My view: No, everyone does not want children to have (free) health insurance. They are running scared. This is the first sign of real cowardice on the GOP side. To borrow from Robt E Lee, "damage them all you can." Now is the time to pile on as much as possible, and not let him get back up. Maybe this is our lucky break.

1. Everybody but BUSH.
And he sends Leavitt out to shill for him. At least Leavitt gave a shit about children's health when he was governor of Utah. The environment, not so much.

4. Not at all. He'd LOVE it if everyone coughed up the huge premiums for private insurance.
Little would make him happier, and I mean this: it would end the crisis and feather the already well-feathered nests of those who flock to profit from sickeness, suffering and death.

2. I think we know by now what Bush means by "compromise"
"My way or the highway."

3. This is so comical
Had this issue not hit the press, Bush would have been gloating about the veto. As it is, he's almost begging to take it back.
