FWIW: Michael Hirsh at Newsweek reported about Sandy Berger on Sept. 6, 2007
Many are trying to avoid that Sandy Berger may indeed be "advising" the Clinton team and say the source is from some right-wing rag, hence has no validity. So if Hirsh reported the story a month ago, is he a right-wing source too?

On Sept 6, 2007, here is Michael Hirsh wrote where he states in his column "Battle for the Best and Brightest":
"...Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, has relied largely on her husband and a triumvirate of senior officials from his presidency—former secretary of state Madeleine Albright, former U.N. ambassador Richard Holbrooke and former national-security adviser Sandy Berger (who tries to keep a low profile after pleading guilty in 2005 to misdemeanor charges of taking classified material without authorization).

3. Yes, she did say he has no OFFICIAL part of the campaign
But everyone knows how all politicians parse their words carefully. If he is advising her campaign unofficially, it is still a dumb move on the part of her campaign.

5. No, it's probably not.
This is unlikely to have any negative or positive effect.

11. "Official" as in being paid. It's the unofficial role we are talking about.
8 years of Bush spin will be followed by 4 years of Clinton spin.

13. Hillary Clinton: "I have thousands of unofficial advisers..."

"He has no official role in my campaign. He's been a friend for more than 30 years. But he doesn't have any official role," Clinton said.

But he's an unofficial adviser, Susan asked?

"I have thousands of unofficial advisers," said Clinton, "and, you know, I appreciate all of that. But he has no official role in my campaign."

6. So the issue is that it's an "old story"?

I make sure to use that excuse on your many attacks on other candidates.

10. Where's The Crime Or Malfeasance On Senator Clinton's Part ?
Berger exhibited piss poor judgement...He committed a misdemeanor, and was adjudicated accordingly... He paid a fine, was put on probation , and publicly shamed....

He serves in no official capacity in the Clinton campaign... Are the Clinton's to shun a thirty year friend and discount whatever knowledge he has because he exhibited exquisitely poor judgment in one isolated instance?

12. Until the Clinton team makes an official statement about Berger, this has legs
Edited on Mon Oct-08-07 02:53 PM by zulchzulu
Berger is radioactive and will have to come out and say he's not involved. The MSM is looking to nibble on this story...it brings back the Clinton years, 911, hiring someone who admitted destroying classified material who now participates in discussions with the Clinton top tier and looks pretty bad as judgment by the Clinton campaign.

They may finally get their chance to throw Berger under a bus. Or they will have to admit he has talked with the campaign... or both.

14. No Legs But I'm Sure Faux, Oxyrush, And Sean Insanity Will Keep Flogging This Non-Story
At the end of an interview with Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton a short while ago, USA TODAY's Susan Page inquired about reports that former Clinton administration national security adviser Sandy Berger is advising her.

Susan asked whether Clinton has any qualms about having Berger as an unofficial adviser to her campaign, given his mishandling of sensitive, classified intelligence documents in 2003?

"He has no official role in my campaign. He's been a friend for more than 30 years. But he doesn't have any official role," Clinton said.

But he's an unofficial adviser, Susan asked?

"I have thousands of unofficial advisers," said Clinton, "and, you know, I appreciate all of that. But he has no official role in my campaign."

15. I'd ask Berger to take a nice, long trip to Madagascar for a few years
I would imagine Hersh will have a statement about this sometime soon...

17. The White House uses the same "old story" excuse, such as Bush being AWOL from TANG
Political campaigns of candidates that represent the different factions of the ruling class use similar tactics and lexicon.

But Michael Hirsch never suggested anything nefarious about the relationship, which is being suggested now...

8. Maybe you missed what Hirsh wrote...
"Sandy Berger (who tries to keep a low profile after pleading guilty in 2005 to misdemeanor charges of taking classified material without authorization)"...

That's not exactly a compliment.
