Got my 15 minutes today. Front page Boston Globe
http://www.boston.com/news/nation/articles/2007/10/09/many_warming_unexpectedly_to_clinton/

By Sasha Issenberg, Globe Staff | October 9, 2007

CONCORD, N.H. - Don Schwartz, who describes himself as "a super-Deaniac progressive type," decided to back Hillary Clinton - whose centrist views, he concedes, do not necessarily match his own - for a simple reason. He wanted, finally, to be with a winner.

The article continues for a full page on the changing attitudes of New Hampshire voters as they get to meet and know Hillary. Sasha Issenberg explores the conflicts many people have between what they think they are supposed to feel and what they really feel after hearing or meeting the Senator.

A great read for those who take seriously the issue of framing.

Don Schwartz aka NewHampster

It would be even nicer if you decided to back Obama, but the World is not perfect.

6. Thanks for the link
I have not decided who I will vote for in the primary (I live in California).

But I really appreciate hearing the views of those who have decided. I especially like hearing the reasons FOR a candidate.

10. I had a problem with the same line. How seriously does someone take their vote...
...if the criteria is "winning"? Is "voting your conscience" really that complex an idea?

You get the America you vote for.

11. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the concept that
any of the front runners would be within the range of acceptable principles for a lot of people is implied.

13. How seriously does someone take their vote if the criteria is winning? Did you seriously ask that?
If you don't want to win, why bother voting?

And anytime someone wades into the "principle voting" cesspool, the implication is other people are NOT voting on principle. Or maybe you don't think people have different principles than you. Or maybe we'd rather have a Democrat than another Republican.

16. Not "winning"; "finally, to be with a winner". Trumping his own views.
Nice trying to deflect, but it won't work here. This is like the "Christian Conservatives" who are supporting Rudy for the simple reason that he could be a winner.

"Don Schwartz, who describes himself as "a super-Deaniac progressive type," decided to back Hillary Clinton - whose centrist views, he concedes, do not necessarily match his own - for a simple reason. He wanted, finally, to be with a winner."

Should be interesting to re-examine NewHampster's posts at DU in light of this article.

23. "If you don't want to win, why bother voting?"
And this: "the 'principle voting' cesspool"

Thanks, there's never been a more succinct summary of the mentality of Hillary supporters.

21. Congrats....But I must disagree with this whole thrust
The future of the country does not really depend on whether Hilary is likable in person or not.

I saw her visit my hoimetown during the Clinton presidency, and she is very charismatic, and people loved her.

However, what she stands for -- and what she represents -- is all wrong. She epitomizes the do-nothing, status-quo corporatist brand of politics that has driven this nation into a ditch and threatens democracy.

but my take-away from the Clinton campaign is they will do everything wrong, just like they did in '04. Took a twenty point lead in the polls and flushed it. Ignored election fraud.

Hence, my backing of someone who represents the future, not the past.

I liked this post, and just have one question.

Why do the "Lillie white" people of NH and IA get to be the only ones to kick the tires, so to speak? Wouldn't a more diverse population be even better?

That's all.

Welcome to DU! MKJ

on edit, changed my spelling and grammer to match the post.

40. There are lots of "nice people" running on our side.
Being affable is not all we need now.

We need to get out of Iraq. Unfortunately I don't think Hillary or Obama would do that fast enough for me.

Kucinich would and possibly Edwards.

One of those two get my vote.
