Not appreciating the "Hillary as Nutcracker" meme
HILLARY NUTCRACKER

Nine-inch tall, functional, plastic nutcracker with stainless steel teeth secured inside upper legs to grip and crack nuts in their shell.

Actively working against another Clinton presidency here, HOWEVER ... I have no clue why DU is accepting advertising for this.

Message: Hillary has teeth between her legs. Strong women (and what they got between their legs) are a threat, are evil, are dangerous, are out to hurt men.

This is sexist (I don't recall seeing Karl Rove promoted as a nutcracker with teeth between his thighs) and it reinforces negative stereotypes about women in power.

9. I didn't see it as sexist or negative at all.
I just thought it was funny as all get-out.

Actually, I sent one to both my ex and my Mother (both are very progressive women). They, too, thought them funny.

My mother is going to give them to her Central Texas Democratic Women's Group (bunch of wealthy, Democratic hellraisers).

But it sure did piss off my right-wing, evil stepfather.

14. It can be a real hassle to get google ads to drop a specific ad
Part of the downside of google ads is that ads are just served up based on keywords in the page. Look at it this way: every view the get costs the morons that make those things money. Clicks cost them even more, whether they get a sale or not (hint)

19. You don't have to be for or against Hillary to find the item sexist
It bothered me, too--especially as an ad here on DU.

People who are strong-willed or agressive are only "nut crackers" if they are WOMEN. Do we hear Giuliani being called a nutcracker? Does he have "thighs of steel"? No, apparently men aren't "ball busters" or "nut crackers," only women. So we can't deny there is gender discrmination here. Strong woman? There's something threatening about that, apparently, that is not the case for strong men.

I expect this kind of stuff from the right wingers, and I'm not saying the people who are marketing this have any agenda other than making big bucks ... but to have to look at the ad here on DU makes me kind of disappointed. I'm not surprised that there are so-called progressives here who find nothing wrong with it. Sexist language or images are accepted readily by many without thought.

But if a woman tells you she finds it offensive ... it is.

Half of the 'funny' is that it annoys so many people. Frankly, after the past few years of testosterone laden Repubes, I think the country could use a few years of a "ball buster" as pres. :)

25. Many people laugh at racist, sexist, or homophobic things.
It doesn't make them not racist, sexist, or homophobic. Laugh away ... but realize you are offending a lot of women who have worked hard their whole lives to accomplish things and then get called insulting names. Other women end up acting meek and incompetent just so they won't be seen as 'ball busters.' It's really tragic.

I hope you don't have a daughter if you think this is funny.

22. Being a woman is what I do like about this candidate - it's what scares the RW
I won't vote for her, as more specific issues trump her being a woman - but for the wingnuts - it's reason enough to hate. They can take on her all the frustrations they have for not getting dates, not being able to keep the wife under control, feeling that women in general outsmart them.

It's that there are real women living in poverty because they get passed over for promotions. One of the reasons they get passed over is this bs notion that men will be disgruntled if they have to work for a woman - because they will find it emasculating.

Honestly, Clinton has her retirement and secure lifestyle locked up - her future is secure.

I am pissed because a lot of women are doing without health care, or living in cars or shelters while working full time jobs, and it's because of exactly this phenomenon, which other people find HAHA funny.

I personally lost out on a career opportunity when I was a single mom getting no child support, and the explicit reason given to me by my supervisor was that I was the best qualified but he was sending someone else, because he knew the people who would have to listen to me wouldn't listen to a woman. HAHAHA. Yeah, I guess I need to get a sense of humor about that shit.

So, you know, I am not so thrilled to see DU profiting off that.

The people who see humor in men not wanting to take orders from a woman are the ones who haven't had to personally deal with the consequences of that - and those who prefer not to think about those women, cause it's a downer and might spoil all the laughs this provides. It's hilarious, I tell you, trying to raise a kid on your own without any personal or sick days at all, and without health insurance.
