HRC: "I pay absolutely no attention to what any poll says or what any pundit on TV says,"
Just how stupid does she think we are? This is ridiculous, and it underlines my biggest problem with her: she's NOT what she says she is, and she not only misleads but outrightly lies. This is a huge problem I had with Bill Clinton, too, and the fact that it just didn't matter to so many Democrats was a constantly dismaying reminder of people's hypocrisy and expediency.

This person polls more than a Venetian Gondolier. It's just ridiculous. She waits on crucial votes to be the last one in to see what others are doing. She has a perpetually wet finger upraised to find which way the wind is blowing. She'll seemingly say anything to a particular group to curry favor, even when it's directly contradictory to what she's said elsewhere.

This is troubling on so many levels. For one thing, this is not LEADERSHIP, and it's certainly not the behavior of an EXECUTIVE. She can stand right there and look us in the eye and demand that others bring things to the table from which she'll choose (as she did in the NH forum when asked about Social Security) and not only not see that this is antithetical to leadership but literally look us in the eye with a "fie on you" scolding for even questioning her on it.

The internet is here, and there are so many instances of her being on every side of important issues and being huffy when questioned. She has provided so much ammunition that the almost nine months from February 6th to the election will be blanketed with so many examples of deception and outright lies that she'll make her husband look like Diogenes. Maybe she can get Jon Lovitz as a VP.

People notice this stuff, and one's word is the foundation of society.

Beyond the simple fact that "lying is bad", "bad" lying is worse for a candidate. She'll get caught repeatedly. It'll destroy so much of the moral standing that the left has painstakingly built up over the years, and anyone campaigning for her will be caught in a nasty catch-22 of either repudiating the endless examples while extolling the virtues (whatever THEY are) of the person, or playing down the real importance of not lying.

I remember watching a stand-up set from the great John Witherspoon where he was talking about Wilt Chamberlain's claim about having sex with 20,000 women: "ya don't go tellin' no godzilla-ass lie like that..." Apparently she DID listen to pollsters at one time; when did she stop? Or has she never listened to them? As for those pollsters on her staff, they must have the cushiest phone-it-in job ever. I guess they must just talk to others who also don't relay the information to her.

Hell, her campaign is being run by MARK PENN, WHO IS MOST COMMONLY DEFINED AS "A POLLSTER".

Google "Mark Penn Pollster" and you get 41,100 hits, and that's just in English.

Go ahead and google it, the first few hits are lotsa fun.

Read the article linked below, from where this whopper comes; it's got a smarminess that's truly ridiculous.

Pssst: they BOTH inhaled.

1. All of them are checking poll numbers and are engaged in their
own polling.

3. the ability to shamelessly lie is the hallmark of a successful politician
look at GWB.

whether or not it is a prerequisite of the presidency, i don't know.

hillary seems to believe that she can lie with the impunity of a republican, which makes me think she knows something we don't - as in, as a corporate dem, the MSM will not crucify her the way they did howard dean.

18. Yes, Dear Leader loves repeating the meme, "I don't watch the polls."
That's disconcerting to say the least. :(

21. i sometimes feel like they HAVE to lie regarding polls.
if they don't, it makes them look craven. but they're POLITICIANS. we know they're craven, they know we know they're craven, yet no one can acknowledge the truth openly.

even kerry disavowed his "last man to die for a mistake" youthful statement applied to iraq. when it was obvious it did, and still does.

i don't know how politics works in a rational country like, say, holland (i can't really think of another one. germany?), but i hope it isn't like Murka, because this way stinks.

Personally, immoral people give me the creeps. They also mess up everything for the rest of us.

7. Actually, I see a different meaning...
She doesn't pay attention, because in her mind, she doesn't need to...she has already completely bought the election! And believe me- it totally pains me to even suggest it. Her extreme confidence- which is NOT attractive, should tip you off!

and watches the polls...and will deny it. That's politics.

9. "Just how stupid does she think we are..."
Apparently, very. And judging by her ardent supporters ... well, I better not go there.

HRC is the most absurd POS. She can take her finger-in-the-wind triangulating, downright lying BS and shove it.

that s/he closely follows the polls and punditry.

This is a stupid thread. They ALL say it, and they're ALL lying about it.

16. Maybe, but the point is that saying blatantly, flat-out, unequivocal lies is...uh...bad
It just gets ridiculous blathering out whoppers like this. It's one thing to say you don't pay that much attention to them, but this is just laughable. It's like she's daring us that she can say whatever she damn well pleases and we'll just eat it right up. Apparently many will, but not everyone.

She's got a spotty record on telling the truth, to put it mildly; making flagrant, obviously false proclamations of her unparalleled virtue just reminds us all that she's a three-faced whoppertunist.

This will haunt her. This, if she wins the nomination, will probably be the through-line in the rhetoric against her, and she invites it with every idiotic statement like this.

What possible good does making a statement like this do? Does she honestly think people BELIEVE this? Is she so hell-bent to portray herself as above the grubby world of politicking that she needs to point out that it's all from the heart and has nothing to do with strategy? Does she really thingk anyone would swallow that?

I thought her whole schtick was that she was the most electable; this defeats that flimsy premise.

Yeah, it's about a relatively unimportant subject--it's not nuclear war, for instance--but that's the crux of my point: if she'll shamelessly and IDIOTICALLY lie about the small stuff, how can anyone expect anything but uncut mendacity of the first order on things that are important? If they lie about taking the last cookie, chances are pretty good they'll about cleaning out all the cash in the cookie jar. That's what's truly flabbergasting and dangerous about this.

It reminds me of Linda Obst's Hollywood memoir; it's entitled: "Hello, he lied".
