Why is James Carville in our playground????
Edited on Thu Oct-11-07 11:34 AM by monmouth
I got this from another Message Board I'm on and am awaiting a link or origin from the OP. In the meantime I figured some on this board could verify he has said these things. He's such a creep IMO and wonder why Dems still allow him on our playground. I will post origin and link asap.... Okay, I went into Search James Carville quotes and many are from his days at Crossfire and various speeches and talks he's given over the years... Quite a guy that Jimmy.

James Carville quotes:

“Ideologies aren't all that important. What's important is psychology.

The Democratic constituency is just like a herd of cows. All you have to do is lay out enough silage and they come running. That's why I became an operative working with Democrats. With Democrats all you have to do is make a lot of noise, lay out the hay, and be ready to use the ole cattle prod in case a few want to bolt the herd.

Eighty percent of the people who call themselves Democrats don't have a clue as to political reality.
What amazes me is that you could take a group of people who are hard workers and convince them that they should support social programs that were the exact opposite of their own personal convictions. Put a little fear here and there and you can get people to vote any way you want.

The voter is basically dumb and lazy. The reason I became a Democratic operative instead of a Republican was because there were more Democrats that didn't have a clue than there were Republicans.

Truth is relative. Truth is what you can make the voter believe is the truth. If you're smart enough, truth is what you make the voter think it is. That's why I'm a Democrat. I can make the Democratic voters think whatever I want them to.”

1. This sounds like a GOP hit peace with made up quotes
The taking a group of hard working people and getting them to support social programs against their personal convictions is right wing rhetoric.

Truth be told the tactics described above are Republican tactics. The Democratic base votes Democratic because it is in their economic interest to tax the rich and spend that money on social programs.

2. I would say you are right
if this was anybody EXCEPT James Carville.

Coming from him, I expect all these quotes are dead-on real. He thinks nothing of the peons, and is one of the prime repub operatives running with the dems as a 5th column.

Fuck him.

3. Like it or not, is he just telling it like it is? Maybe his wife feels the same about republicans.

4. I don't believe any of this. Where is a link?
Don't post drivel. Carville may not be everybody's cup of tea; but, he is a democrat who wouldn't be caught dead saying those things, IMHO. Please prove what you have posted. What message board did it come from? That would be a start. Perhaps we could track it from there if you aren't able?

6. That is the central problem with the netroots blogosphere.
People without a reputation to uphold can spin things however they'd like.

7. I Took It Off
Because part of it was a direct quote...

But there is no independent verification for the suggestion Carville became a Dem because he believes Dems are more malleable than Rethuglicans... I suspect he believes, and in my opinion correctly, a lot of folks are malleable...

8. I wouldn't want a strategist who wasn't cynical.
Also, the same people who complain about Carville would probably be the ones complaining that no one is smart enough to vote for Dennis Kucinich. That is the same view.

10. A source?
Carville has his pluses and minuses. He can be witty and bright and he can be an idiot. I'd like to see a source for the quotes before I put a lot of stock into them.

How he manages to have a happy marriage with Mary Matalin is beyond me unless they both compartmentalize their political beliefs (or they don't really have strong beliefs). In certain respects I see less difference today between Ds and Rs than a generation or more ago.

18. I've wondered how that marriage can work too...
But I think politics is more of a strategy game to them than it is a means of expressing cherished values, as it is with the base on both sides.

9. Even if he thinks that
he wouldn't say that. It reminds me of one of those e-mail hoaxes with some right wing diatribe attributed to Robin Williams or George Carlin.

13. I don't believe it, either...
As the author of a number of books on why Democratic ideas defeat Publican ideology every time, I can't see him saying that ideology means nothing, and that manipulating people psychologically is the basis of his work. Even if he actually believed that (which I don't think he does), it would destroy his credibility to announce it -- it would be like a magician revealing how he performs his tricks, and then expecting the audience to believe they really are magic.

This does look like a right-wing attempt to put words into Carville's mouth. I remeber, back in 2000, some Publican took a whole list of Dan Quayle quotes, changed the party names, and sent them out as having been spoken by "Vice-President Al Gore." I see no reason to trust the veracity of this any more than that particular bit of disinformation.

Get what I'm saying?

He's one half of a one stop hack shop for both "approved" political families.

Just a guess, but.... I bet I'm right.

15. if these quotes were found on the internet then they must be true
Apparently that's the only defense the OP has. Well, I just searched the internet for them and I found about 3 dozen hits. All with the exact same list of quotes and none with any citation to when or where Carville allegedly said these things.

In other words, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that these are anything other than made up bullshit.

to John Kerry was unforgivable. Just check Google before you get your drawers in a wad...
