i'd still like to know the education level of every member of congress. not to knock those who didn't go very far in school, it just seems there are so many who are willfully ignorant in Congress.

13. Amazingly, ignorance has little to do w/education. I know

several highly educated people that are about as smart as a brick; and I know farmers that never made it out of grade school that can fix just about anything, from a kids toy to a sophisticated half million dollar combine.

Ignorance is self induced. There will always be people that deny gravity or have a geocentric view of the universe...or some other nonsense.

It is all relative...we are all ignorant of some things, where it all comes in to play is, are we willing to stop learning?

7. I got my Good Enuf Diploma

Took classes at a 4 year and burned out very quickly due to a combination of terrible home life and depression/anxiety.

I was planning on going back to school for the upcoming spring semester, but having to find another job in the wake of a layoff put the kibosh on that. :(

27. I finished up my BA at age 56 and went to grad school at age 59,

finishing 4 and 1/2 years later. I LOVED going back to school. It was a delight. It was a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) degree and I studied philosophy, the arts, religion, history, literature, political science and a writing workshop. It was a relief to go one night a week for a few hours as a break from my hideously stressful job of fundraising.

You will love going back to school if you choose the right program, IMO. Older students are really at an advantage, I think. It helps having all that experience in life!

Enjoyed the heck out of my education as an older student -- I now have an MA and PhD in Mythological Studies, an interdisciplinary program. It was very hard work, but because I loved what I was doing the writing and research were a joy. The kids were both out of the house at that time and Mr. H was supporting me, or I never could have done it.

My grandfathers both had 8th grade educations, the norm for their day I think. My grandmother was a schoolteacher before she married. My parents both had some college, but no degrees.

College was my mom's Holy Grail, but in my experience the key is to be a reader and have an inquiring mind. There are a lot of jobs you need a degree for in this day and age, but aside from that, I've certainly known and enjoyed a lot of intelligent people who never got to or finished college but who are very informed about the world around them. The general level at this discussion board illustrates that belief for me.

32. Associates Degree in Radiology and Certificate in Magnetic Resonance

Also studying to become Cat Scan certified. My prior degrees were all done at Community College level. Radiology and Nursing are by far the best degrees you can earn for 2 yrs at any comm college with the most bang for your buck. The education is affordable and you reap the benefits w/ your salary being quite comparable to any 4 year degree. MRI techs make anywhere from $25-45 an hr. depending on how may years you have under your belt. Also where you live plays a role in what you make, Mass is #2 in the country for medical salaries. Where else can you make $40 an hr. on less then $10,000 on tuition? Competition is fierce to get into these programs. And you have to bust your ass and study like hell. Well worth it!
