1. No bid contracts strike again.
The saddest part is when workers are holding up
the remains of fire fighters uniforms that have been
recovered at the dump.

Disgrace doesnt even come close to describing Ghouliani.

7. It was placed to provide a secure location for trysts with Judy Nathan. Seriously.
He was dating Judy but was still married and wanted a place with a private elevator (not visible from the lobby) within walking distance of his office.

Seriously.

He's just the worst.

8. Are You Serious?
And people are worrying that Hillary Clinton kissed Suha Arafat and allegedly called a Jew a bastard some thirty years ago...

9. 'He had his own elevator' By Steve Benen

This is an excerpt. The whole piece is good. (Linked)

The 7 WTC site was the brainchild of Bill Diamond, a prominent Manhattan Republican that Giuliani had installed at the city agency handling rentals. When Diamond held a similar post in the Reagan administration a few years earlier, his office had selected the same building to house nine federal agencies. Diamond's GOP-wired broker steered Hauer to the building, which was owned by a major Giuliani donor and fundraiser. When Hauer signed onto it, he was locked in by the limitations Giuliani had imposed on the search and the sites Diamond offered him. The mayor was so personally focused on the siting and construction of the bunker that the city administrator who oversaw it testified in a subsequent lawsuit that "very senior officials," specifically including Giuliani, "were involved," which he said was a major difference between this and other projects.

Giuliani's office had a humidor for cigars and mementos from City Hall, including a fire horn, police hats and fire hats, as well as monogrammed towels in his bathroom. His suite was bulletproofed and he visited it often, even on weekends, bringing his girlfriend Judi Nathan there long before the relationship surfaced. He had his own elevator.

10. "Giuliani: Catastrophe Waiting to Happen" by Josh Marshall
Edited on Tue Oct-16-07 11:26 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
On review, this doesn't have anything new on the love nest angle--justllinks to the first piece. But it's still a good couple of grafs on the mannace that is Rudy.
Giuliani: Catastrophe Waiting to Happen
08.13.07 -- 1:41PMBy Josh Marshall

I know I'm not telling you anything you don't know by noting that being mayor on 9/11 doesn't give Rudy Giuliani any expertise on terrorism, no matter what he might think. But it's only crystallized in my mind in recent days -- from watching him speak and seeing who his advisors are -- that Giuliani appears to know virtually nothing about either the Middle East or counter-terrorism policy. And he looks very much like another George W. Bush in the making. Indeed, not the President Bush we now have, who has slowly lost the greater proportion of his more fanatic deputies and has Bob Gates and Condi Rice as his two main policy advisors, but the President Bush of 2001.

With Giuliani you have a man who appears to have very little familiarity with the Middle East but does have a personality which prioritizes gut-instinct, point-scoring and aggression. And like Bush he appears to believe he can make up for his lack of knowledge and experience with attitude and ass-kicking. To round things out, his foreign policy advisory team looks quite like the crowd of neocons who were advising President Bush while he was running for president. If anything they look like a group that was too extreme to gain entry into the original 'vulcans' group.

The fact that he set up his pre-9/11 counter-terrorism HQ as a love nest may make for good sizzle. But the direction he'd take US policy on the Middle East would likely be a genuine disaster.

2. well, I voted A, because I thought it was an extremely effective
piece of film...
Those involved were plain-spoken and their issues went straight to the heart...I also can't help but notice the Giuliani is wearing a dust mask when most others aren't...and that seems significant given what we know about the toxicity of the air that day.

I think the thing which is most disturbing is the "political face" he wears during his segments...it gives the impression that personal political advancement covers all.

Film is an extremely powerful medium; it allows the propagandist (neutral term here, ala Jaques Ellul, no pejorative intended, in communication everything is propaganda) to craft perceptions. The FDNY has done an exemplary job in this; to the degree that their case is true (I have no reason to doubt it) this comes across as a very revealing and damning portrayal of Giuliani in terms unrelated to personal issues but, in fact, in terms of his capability to safeguard a nation.

5. Agreed...
and in this case it seems to be a matter of perception of strength only, as the facts continue to pour out.
