Can some political maven help resolve this?
Okay... I get the sense that the republicans are not trying to enforce primary date discipline, and that the "renegade" state's republican primaries are for real. If that's the case then why is the media talking about which pug will win New Hampshire?

It's irrelevant. Between Iowa and New Hampshire there are 142 delegates at stake in three states that are all larger than New Hampshire. The week of Jan. 22 should be considered a "bye" week for the campaigns to rest or campaign in Florida (114 delegates), or if they are really desperate, to chase New Hampshire's paltry 24 delegates.

Are the talking heads this dumb, not even recognizing that NH is a big deal for the Dems but a footnote for the pugs, or am I missing something? Thanks in advance for any rational explanation.

Thursday, January 3, 2008 - Iowa (41)
Saturday, January 5, 2008 - Wyoming (12 of 28)
Tuesday, January 15, 2008 - Michigan (61)
Saturday, January 19, 2008 - Nevada (34), South Carolina (47)

Tuesday January 22, 2008 - New Hampshire (24)
Tuesday, January 29, 2008 - Florida (114)
Saturday, February 2, 2008 - Maine (21)
