When HRC goes back to Washington, who should Governor Spitzer pick to replace her?

9. RFK Jr. would be a great person for that job. That was his father's old
senate seat too.

7. Must be a typo...please correct
Unfortunately, JFK Jr. has been dead for 8 years.

Fortunately, RFK Jr. is very much alive and well, and may well be the next US Senator from New York.

19. "Should" is the operative word... He should have been available
but he's not...

However, there's another Camelot heir who would probably be more capable and, I believe, she's a New Yorker... Of course, it's Caroline!

Can't say that I blame them. I agree that Caroline is definitely capable. :)

30. Aah, that's better - thanks!
I knew you'd get that typo fixed quickly!

Reminded me of one of my favorite JFK quotes: "An error does not become a mistake until you fail to correct it."

(Would someone please send these words of wisdom to George W. Bush immediately?)

It's also nice to see that RFK Jr. already has a commanding lead in this poll. Not that I'm particularly surprised!:)

21. Is Hillary Clinton quitting as Senator after she loses in the primary?
I think she'll finish out her term. President Obama will make sure she doesn't try to pass legislation to go into Iran.

29. I'd personally like Bill Clinton... but I don't think he'd accept the job.
However, it may be nicer and more permanent to be called senator than First Gentleman. But FG would have a lot better life and more interesting!

So my second or real choice is Robert Kennedy...and he could be trusted to protect the environment and work with President Gore!

31. This raises a good point - if she wins the nomination will she quit the Senate?
She'd have to think she's got a very good chance at being elected if she wins the nomination. Remember they used Kerry's Senate position to continually hamstring him, forcing him to cancel campaign plans to come home for votes. Admittedly they can't do it this time as the Democrats are in charge, but if Hillary (or Obama or Biden or Dodd or Kucinich - all the other guys in Washington) were nominated, resigning from their seats would give them time to be a full-time campaigner.

I guarantee you that if the GOP nominee is Romney, Thompson, or Giuliani they will have a big advantage over a sitting Senator or Congressman in that they'll be able to be campaigning 24/7 with nothing else to do. Even McCain might resign his Senate seat if he got the nomination - not that that's going to happen, but it's just food for thought.

What do you guys think?

32. I don't live in NY and don't know any of these folks, but I have a diff.
question. What is NY law for replacing a Senator if Hillary IS elected?

Is there a special election, or does the Gov. just name someone for a specific pweriod of time, or what?

My next auestion is, if so many on DU are against dynasties, why are so many voting for a Kennedy in this poll?

I happen to be kennedy supporter and if I lived there would vote for him, but the Kennedy's are a dynasty too, don't ya think?
