Thats it, I'M FRIGGIN DONE
I'm done.

I'm done hoping that the elected officials will finally do the fucking job they were elected to do.

I'm done giving money, making phone calls, attending protests, and writing letters to congress, editors and friends when all I get is kicked in the teeth.

I'm done thinking that sooner or later this country will wake up and get ANGRY and demand Bush stop the illegal bullshit that is this Administration.

I'm done thinking that my children will know the same great country I grew up in and adored.

I'm done getting my hopes up that something, ANYTHING is going to change only to sit here again, bitch slapped by reality.

I'm done crying when the next outrage outdoes the last, and NO ONE SEEMS TO GIVE A SHIT.

and call these Reps up and tell them what the hell is going on??? Our Senators and Reps need to hear from us, that low rumble of discontent, if this jerk * does something else I think that will be it, we will not stand for it. This guy is a threat, and we have scream it out.

We have an out of control president, and I will not be ashamed to tell whoever answers the phone that the 25th Amendment must be invoked.

plus I hate when this stupid man knows what Americans want, or he is going to protect us, what kind of BS is that? do we need for this imbecile to take care of us, hey, george do not think for me?? you stupid man.

5. I go through that every few months.
I hope it's only temporary for you, too...

I'm sorry... I know it's rough. But please... keep in mind that big change happens slowly... it's more a pendulum than a rubber band... it took repukes over 20 years to bring this country to this point. We can change things, but it won't happen in a couple years... IF we win, it'll be a MUCH longer, harder struggle. Remember the suffragettes... they didn't see the change they fought for, but future generations did.

Actually on second thought... sometimes it is more like a rubber band... but that only happens during times of revolution.

7. I must admit that I feel the same way lately.
How absolutely depressing. Where is my country? Why does everyone give Bush everything he wants? The bastards in Washington, both Democrats and Republicans, are not listening to us any more. They don't give a crap about what we want. They are supposed to represent US in Washington, not their own interests. We need to kick the bums out. Sometimes I wish there were some other choice other than Dem or Repuke. They are all self serving asswipes. While they sit on their hands, the blood of our soldiers trickles into the sand half way around the world. Shame on them. They all make me sick. I am not giving one dollar or one minute of my time this election. I am too burned out to care any more.

8. I remeber a time when I laughed at countries
whose leaders ruled absolutely under the guise of democracy. I think we have reached that point and, no matter what the overwhelming majority wants, someone else is really calling the shots. Our elections may be closer than they were in Saddam's Iraq or in today's Pakistan, but that only enhances the illusion that our votes count.

.hell, I feel like that myself.....but then what are ya gonna do? Sit back and join the 'what's the point - crowd'? What's gonna change with that? It's hard to keep at it, it's disappointing, it seems futile, it seems a waste of time, it seems to always end in disillusionment. But we'll do what millions of people did before us - we suck it up and keep trying. Maybe some day it'll sink in and things will change - maybe it won't but at least we can say we didn't just sit back and watch and let it happen - we tried to change things. Just my way of looking at it - even if, at the moment, I would like to smash something.

15. Consider the following:
With another 15-20 Democrats in the House and/or a Democratic president, SCHIP passes.

That is why this coming election is so important. If we can make gains in Congress and win the presidency, it will be significantly easier to push for a progressive agenda.

50. that's not the proble, actually
Why should Republicans vote for this sick legislation? It's just plain wrong. This *law* is illegal and unconstitutional.

Electing more Dems will help but it's not enough. Real Republicans need to reclaim their party -- I'm talking about the John Dean Republicans, people I can disagree with, but I can respect. Our political system thrives on honest sincere intelligent exchanges between these two parties.

23. If You Give Up....
THEY WIN!!!!

It is essential that each and every one of us KEEP THE PRESSURE ON!
If we stop for one nanosecond, Bushco, Inc. wins!
We MUST KEEP UP THE HEAT.
I have been fighting this war for over thirty long years. If you give up at any time, you lose. This is not a war that we can lose, because if we lose, EVERYONE loses.
Yes, there may be battles lost, but we WILL EVENTUALLY WIN!
Historically, Liberals ALWAYS win, and those who fear change, ALWAYS LOSE!

24. You lasted longer
than I did, I gave up after Alito.

Still fighting but without party allegiance. Focus down to the state and local level. It is important and it is at times easier on your blood pressure. It certainly has helped me. It does not mean you give up on the country or the constitution only the elected officials who are in it for themselves alone. It is hard to be effective when you are constantly banging your head against the wall and that is about all it amounts to anymore when dealing with our representatives.

Sometimes it's also the people you are doing work with. If you're lucky enough to find people who are dependable, enthusiastic and most of all, have a good sense of humor, you make it through all the ups and downs.

Take a break for a little bit. We need you out there in the streets, no matter who you are for.

I've been so disappointed by my leaders and even by the people around me asking "what's the problem? It's just a bunch of brown people! We don't have anything to fear!"

As a doom prophet, I have to tell you that it's going to have to get worse before people start to get it and start really rattling the cages. Relax and let the fight go for now until more people are willing to hear the message, and our leaders are willing to make the message into something concrete.

33. With all due respect. That is what got us where we are today.
In 1980 I gave up. And so did a lot of people.

This country is where it is because we gave up.

Here's an idea that may or may not be true- I believe that Republicans don't have to be involved because they are represented by a group who are moving in the direction of greed. The human being defaults to greed and comfort. We're fighting an uphill battle. That's never easy. But it's better in the long run for the majority of those who live on the planet. So they can afford to be the lazy assholes that they are, and they still get the authoritative government they feel better with. They are their own worst enemies, but they don't realize it. We, on the other hand, have to stay engaged. But our fight is good.

If that makes sense, then you should be very unhappy still. But engaged. And ready for something good in the future.

38. I agree
It's hard to wake up and think "Maybe this will be the day" and then nothing comes of it. Time and time again we have read about investigations of wrong doings, possible indictments, and ultimate accountabilities only to be disappointed. It's damned hard to keep the faith and keep up the fight.

I often feel that our country has betrayed us. It is in many ways unrecognizable. Where is the outrage?

I have signed petition after petition, written Congress Critters - my own (who are Repugs and march in lock-step) and others who seem to be persons of integrity, and have attended countless protests. No one is listening. We are marching toward the abyss. The ruling powers dismiss and ignore us.

We elected them to do a job, and they have failed miserably. The campaign promises have been ignored, forgotten, or - worse yet, written off as a means to an end.

It is heartbreaking to muster the will to fight on, but fight we must. The alternative is unthinkable.

that will keep our democratic principles, no matter how shaky they seem right now?

No matter how discouraged you are, sitting home next November and not voting for the Democratic candidate - no matter who s/he is - will assure Bush's "legacy" of a court full of Thomases and Scalias.

And whatever disillusionment you are having now will look like sweet dreams if the next justices will be appointed by another Republican.

52. Shireen, thankyou. My grandson's health care insurance may be in peril
as a result of this vote. My daughter is finding out now. They live in CA and we are hoping the state SCHIP will be covered by a supplemental there. He has a developmental problem that will normalize with time and therapy. He does not have mental retardation or autism, but a subsection of developmental areas in need of attention. Because of his high IQ he will probably be able to overcome several of these problems, but the therapy is crucial right now.

I am trying to rein in my anger and my sadness. It just isn't easy right now. I don't know what to do...

53. Who ever said it was easy?
When has it ever been easy?

African Americans were enslaved for 200 years on this continent, and then another 100 years before even approaching something close to equal treatment...they never gave up

Women were second class citizens until the early 20th century, and in many ways are still treated that way...they never gave up...

Christ, if there is a group that had every right to bag it it would be Native Americans...yet you still see them fighting for their rights...

I know it is cliche, but how easy do you suppose it was for Continental Soldiers, Civil War soldiers, and troops in WWI and WWII? They never gave up...

How about the depression, millions of families hungry and homeless...they never gave up...

Sometimes I think people here have very little in the way of historical memory...

As bad as things are now, things have been alot worse for many who have come before...

61. Just be done for the day - dust yourself off and try again. We
want things to move more quickly but we are trying to undo almost 13 years of damage done by the republicans. We can never give up...but we can occasionally say fuck this crap, vent, whatever and try again. Good things happen to those who wait...and persevere.

62. I feel the same way, but......Never give up!
We can't let the repukes push us aside, and if our own people aren't much of a help, we'll just have to figure out another way to turn things around.

68. WHOOPS! A quick look at the facts reveals the OP is dead wrong.

You guys must enjoy repeating false memes. Here's the truth about the Democrats in Congress:

"President Bush's success rating in the Democratic-controlled House has fallen this year to a half-century low, and he prevailed on only 14 percent of the 76 roll call votes on which he took a clear position.

"So far this year, Democrats have backed the majority position of their caucus 91 percent of the time on average on such votes. That marks the highest Democratic unity score in 51 years."

Don't let the media rhetoric fool you. The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well--especially given their bare majority in both houses, and a relentlessly obstructionist Republican minority.

71. Statistics are for losers.
Bush is doing what he wants in Iraq, spying on whoever the hell he wants in the US, blocking health care for kids, thumbing his nose at Congress, ignoring subpoenas, having the Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared a target in the war on terror by Democrats ...

The Democrats have acquitted themselves quite well ... if you're rooting for the other side. :eyes:
