Maybe we could get some agreement around here.

4. Richardson seems a likely VP candidate for her, but Obama'd be really sweet.
Hell, that'd probably mean 16 years of Democratic presidents.

11. That's what I'm hoping! And Biden for SoS.
Clark sure should be in her cabinet. I just wish he could be SoD...but that's not allowed. Maybe a strong Democratic congress could over ride that rule/law. I wonder if that's possible? Clark on her ticket could win over some of those red states...even turn Arkansas blue along with a lot of other states. For many...it wouldn't take having a woman as CiC with Clark at her side.

I'd also like to see Robert Kennedy head of the EPA.
Mario Cuomo as Attorney General...or maybe Fitzpatrick.
Bill Maher for Health and Human services. lol Wouldn't the Fundies love that?

6. In the unlikely event of Hillary winning.......
I guess I would have to say Edwards. (Although I think a Edwards/Obama ticket would be great)

Then maybe Biden as SoD? Gotta get Biden in there somewhere.

15. Richardson
would make an excellent SoS, but I kind of like Wes there too. So for VP and SoS I think those are the two that should be there one way or the other.

10. Who would I LIKE, or who would she pick?
Edited on Sat Oct-20-07 11:28 PM by wienerdoggie
Two different things. I hope she DOESN'T pick Evan Bayh--don't like him. I'd prefer Clark. I'm tempted to say Obama, but both Obama and Jim Webb need to stay in the Senate for a while--we need them there, desperately. VP slot is kind of a backwater (or will be again), and their talents would be wasted for 8 years. SecState: I prefer Clark, if he's not her VP. Biden or Richardson are also good and obvious choices, but if she's as crafty as I think she is, she'll offer it to Chuck Hagel, which would "neutralize" him so that he doesn't run against her in 2012 (she promised to be bipartisan, anyway). SecDef: A Republican. I don't know who, but she'll offer it to a Repub (McCain?). Why? I don't know--just a hunch--I think we'll see a little "Goldwater Girl" once she wins the primary. Russ Feingold or Patrick Fitzgerald for Attorney General.

18. I don't care who Hillary has as VP or in her cabinet, as long as she doesn't pardon Bush or Cheney!
What I do care about is that the next President, whoever he or she turns out to be, ends the war in Iraq as quickly as possible (no enduring presence or occupation), and that the 'unitary' Executive is dismantled together with the police state apparatus created under Bush regime. Our Constitution and our freedoms must be restored. Bush and his criminal cohorts must face justice for their crimes.

23. Bob Graham would be the smartest strategic choice.
You Don't pick a sitting Senator...becuae that has the potential to put in Senate Seat in play. You Never pick a House member because it just is not done. If you are a Senator you pick a Governor. If you are a Governor you pick a Senator. That is the common maxim

Despite the protest of progressives withing the part....She is perceived as an uber-liberal and she will be fighting that image in the general election.

Hear me out.

The liberal base of the party will grudgingly back her... That is secure.

The moderates within the party will certainly support her.

It's the moderate swing voter that is up for grabs. The RW attack machine sill be spitting nails if she gets the nod. SO she is going to have to pick someone who would blunt the criticism and put a major state in play because no matter what the national match-ups may say. It is 51 state elections and if you look at the last four election it really comes down to a battle over swing states.

Mark Warner would bring Virginia into the Fold and that might be enough to capture the Electoral votes necessary...But he took himself out when he announced for the Senate.

Evan Bayh might work.. But Indiana is pretty red and with Clinton on the top of the ticket it would mean too much effort and probably not much chance to flip it.

Ted Strickland in Ohio might be a good choice, but Ohio dumped on the GOP the last election so it is probably secure anyway. so not alot of gain.

That leaves MIssouri and Florida as attainable swing states. No one in Missouri comes to mind except Gephardt and that might be a play for union votes but it would not necessarily mean any more electoral votes because she probably has heavy union states wrapped up with the exception of Ohip and I am not sure if Gephardt gives he enough bump in Missouri to capture the state.

So FLorida... Where Graham is adored seems a logical moderate, largely benign choice.

Richardson for Secretary of state.

God knows she's earned it! Doing her best to present a ballot with only Clinton and Dodd on it and has officially endorsed Hillary. She's handing Michigan's primary to Clinton on a platter, what else does a girl have to do to get a cabinet spot???

28. Jim Webb for V.P.
That should help us scoop up a southern state (Virginia). And she would need him to pull in as many white men as possible. Plus, he's my kind of Democrat - an earthy redneck who is also a progressive.

33. I seriously doubt that Kerry as Do J works
He would be excellent. But if HRC is like BC, I seriously doubt she would give him the independence to go after the corruption that anyone knowing his background knows he would go after. Much better that he continue to serve as MA's Jr Senator and become the strong independent voice he is capable of being through Democratic administrations and Republican ones.

Remember the DoJ can be replaced by the President - a Senator can't.

37. I hope not too
She is centrist and Bayh is centrist...or even right of center. Personally I think Hillary needs a progressive on her ticket or she'll make her base pretty darn angry.

Also, the VP should be in training for P and on the 2016 ticket. I don't think many people are all that fond of Bayh...especially after 8 years of pushing the Democrats to the right.

I would be very unhappy if she chose Bayh. He also has no foreign policy experience. What does he add toward her ticket?

39. That's a surprise. I hope it's only Indiana politics.
I laugh at the thought that Hillary is considered too Liberal. I guess people here on DU have a much different view/idea of what Liberal means.
Bayh didn't do well when he campaigned...so I don't see how Hillary would want him for a running mate except to get Indiana's electoral votes.

A horrible thought. Hillary is sure she has Dems in the bag and Bayh would give her a lots of disgruntled Republicans and Independents. That sounds like a good enough plan to work. It's a sickening thought if our party has to go further to the right. I don't think we have to do that to win the election.

Another thought...maybe as a woman...she would feel more in control or comfortable with a less experienced, mild mannered man that would be less likely to try and dominate her.
