Obama has the ability to make Religious Leaders see the light
I posted in the following in the thread http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3628257
to respond to the concerns about the Obama Gospel Tour 2007.
My post is a follows:

"In 2004 Warren sent out an email basically guiding people to vote for Bush. In 2006 there was no email.

Last month he took a mild jab at Liberals to start a sermon, then spent 20 minutes comparing conservative leaders to Pharisees, (those in direct conflict with Jesus) and told those in attendance that these type of people were the worst possible. So someones message is getting through to Warren, Bono spends some time with him, Kerry visited him for a day, as did Obama. Appears to be progress!"

This is my experience. An influential religious leader in Orange County, CA, went from toeing the party line in 2004 (and pissing me off) to preaching to 25,000 of his follower to be very wary of phony political leaders. One would have to be clueless to not get the point of who he was refering to as Pharasees. He started the Pharisees discusion off clearly linking them to conservatives who tell you what you want to hear but there actions are in direct conflict to their words.

So even if only 10% of people "got it" that is 2500 people who now will not blindly vote for a conservative.

Obama's outreach (along with Bono, and others) makes a difference. Open discussion works, when the message is on target. You can have the same old bullshit or pick a guy that can truly make a difference.
