Times Online: "Some believe the abandoned pet could now come between Hillary and her W.H. ambitions"

Ouch! Hillary Clinton's softer image is clawed over dumped cat

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article2702804.ece

AS THE “first pet” of the Clinton era, Socks, the White House cat, allowed “chilly” Hillary Clinton to show a caring, maternal side as well as bringing joy to her daughter Chelsea. So where is Socks today?

Once the presidency was over, there was no room for Socks any more. After years of loyal service at the White House, the black and white cat was dumped on Betty Currie, Bill Clinton’s personal secretary, who also had an embarrassing clean-up role in the saga of his relationship with the intern Monica Lewinsky.

Some believe the abandoned pet could now come between Hillary Clinton and her ambition to return to the White House as America’s first woman president.

Clinton’s treatment of Socks cuts to the heart of the questions about her candidacy. Is she too cold and calculating to win the presidency? Or does it signify political invincibility by showing she is willing to deploy every weapon to get what she wants? “In the annals of human evil, off-loading a pet is nowhere near the top of the list,” writes Caitlin Flanagan in the current issue of The Atlantic magazine. “But neither is it dead last, and it is especially galling when said pet has been deployed for years as an all-purpose character reference.”

so they found a home for the cat with someone who would appreciate it.

That doesn't mean anything against Hillary or Bill in my book.

40. Well, it would have helped...
If Hillary hadn't ripped the Sock's head off and eaten it entrails...

Kidding. This is positively the stupidest political observation I've ever read in my life. It's bullshit of the highest water. For starters, there was never any strong connection made in the media between Hillary and Socks. It was always Chelsea's pet, never Hillary's. So they've overblown that part of the story to ludicrous proportions.

And when Chelsea left for college and then the Clinton's left the White House, the Clinton's didn't want a pet -- particularly given that Hillary would be commuting between New York and Washington and Bill would be all over the globe. Pet ownership would not have been practical (or fair to the pet). Note that their attempt to keep a dog ended tragically when the Clinton's were out of town, the housekeeper inadvertently let Buddy break free. He then darted into traffic in front of their home and was hit by a car.

See, sometimes putting ridiculous shit in quotes...as I did in my subject line...is a way of highlighting its ridiculousness.

But hey, one of the favorite sports here is posters informing other posters of their motivation behind posting, no matter how misinformed they might be.

Congratulations. I'm sure your post made you feel great, too.

And we need a Carville type (probably an Emanuel-ish guy) that will say to the Republican, if you pull that kind of shit on our candidate, here's what we say about yours...Got it?

There are so many other things that could and should "come between her and her W.H. Ambitions". Do this "she gave away her kitty" thing is a non-starter.

We who oppose HRC can do better than this.

17. This was really stupid the first and second times I read it - HOWEVER
Let' just pretned it's a real issue.

1. Betty Currie was very close to Socks and was a wonderful home for Socks because

Mrs. Currie holds a very special place in the heart of one of the members of the First Family — Socks! Socks is never far from Mrs. Currie's office, where he can curl up in his favorite chair or take a nap in the window overlooking the Rose Garden

2. Socks didn't get along with their dog Buddy, so it was better to separate them

Socks, lame-duck cat, most definitely hisses at Buddy, lame-duck dog.

And when Clinton's new puppy harassed Socks, Currie made news by comforting the frightened cat.

18. Ernie, Bush's 6-Toed Cat? Dumped on the way to W.H.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x2102995

Ernie, a tomcat, was found, hiding in a tree, by Spot, the First Dog. Ernie, an orange and white cat, was named after Ernest Hemingway because, like the famous author, Ernie has six toes on each foot. In April 2001, Ernie was kicked out of the White House for his wild ways (among his crimes: shredding White House furniture). Ernie was taken in by Bush family friends in California.

Then he ran away…

Ernie the cat found!

April 10, 2001 | Since the saga of Ernie the cat has gotten its share of attention from RVB readers, we're happy to provide this update from the Associated Press:

President Bush's former cat, missing for weeks, turned up in the dead of night Wednesday strolling Los Angeles' Avenue of the Stars.

By Wednesday afternoon, the orange and white tabby cat was back with Bush fundraiser Brad Freeman and "doing interviews," first lady Laura Bush's office announced at the White House.

22. well, remember Buddy, Bill Clinton's dog
He bought him because he read a poll indicating it would gain him sympathy during the Lewinski matter. Once the Lewinski thing blew over, Buddy got smucked off by a car.

Typical Clintons; reduced to using animals to curry a sympathetic vote, then getting rid of them when they are no longer useful.

Lots of manure was spread during Pres. Clinton's tenure regarding this cat-- I don't see any reason why straws wouldn't be grasped at again.

Maybe this time, the effort will finally get to the bottom of that horrid Socks the Fan Club conspiracy :sarcasm:

Since we're re-playing tired, old games again, shouldn't we be calling for an investigation into her Christmas card list...? more :sarcasm:

42. Socks hated Buddy....
So Sock got a new home without Buddy, he was not dumped. Personally I would be thrilled be given the White House cat if I was his personal secretary. In Hillary's book Living History, there is a photo of Socks on the secretary's desk looking down at Buddy.

How can anyone take such crap journalism seriously? If you want to know what kind of woman Clinton is look at Chelsea, she turned out to be a great, accomplished woman and she did not have it easy.
She has her looks trashed, her parents were accused of murder, rape, having a fake marriage that was falling apart, her mother was constantly accused of being a secret lesbian, her father was accused of affair after affair, then the Monia Lewinsky thing happened. He father's sex life dragged through the media, when Chelsea was an adolescent she had. to be the mediator. Yet Chelsea came out of it so well, which means that despite the relentless spotlight on them, Hillary must have done a very good job bringing up Chelsea in The White House and that is everything that we need to know about whether she is a warm caring person or not.

BTW: Who remembers how Hillary was accused of killing Buddy? This story has the same disgusting tone.
