No.
No you can't have a new Speaker; it's up to members of Congress, not you, and they ain't gonna listen to you on this. Nor should they.

No. you can't recall House Representatives.

No. you can't recall U.S. Senators.

No. Progressives and Liberals and Democrats are not the only people represented by your Congressional representatives.

No. Hillary Clinton's campaign won't be derailed by Socks the cat or stories about how she's a lesbian or had Vince Foster done in.

No. The race for the dem nomination is not over, but yes Clinton is leading.

Reality. It's not a bad place to be when it comes to politics.

29. Aargh. I rarely use recipes but this is what I did
I took 4 croissants and tore 'em into bite size pieces and put 'em in a bowl. Melted 2 oz of bittersweet choc with 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup strong coffee in microwave. Let cool and added 3 eggs and 1/2 cup whole milk- if the mixture is too thick just add more milk. Dump chocolate mixture into croissant pieces. Soak for a few minutes before putting into buttered baking dish, and bake in preheated 325 oven for 30 to 35 minutes. Serve warm or at room temp. Everyone loves it, and I do it differently each time.

30. It means you can't do it until you convince the rest of us to go with you on this ride
You aren't getting there and your (movement's) ideas are not getting traction and not among the Hillary backers and Pelosi backers here on DU. If anything, the anti Hillary and anti Pelosi posts here are making me defend them as if they are underdogs because what is being asked of them is totally unrealistic.

There aren't the votes to impeach, if you impeach Bush anyway and you don't get Cheney out at the same time, Cheney WILL ABSOLUTELY ATTACK IRAN POSSIBLY WITH NUKES. But impeachment takes a long time and even if it goes through, we are going to do what, get rid of 3 months of his term? And then Cheney, remember, remember as president. Egahhh!

And Pelosi cannot defund the war without the backing of her own caucus. She can send up leglislation that leaves out Iraq troop funding but she won't be able to pass it because enough of her own caucus (13 votes) will not pass any appropriation that doesn't fund the troops. Heck, if any of these folks are on the rules committee, it might not even get through that.

So this simplistic thing of saying "if Pelosi would just do her job" we would get an impeachment or a worthy try and we would defund Iraq and the troops would somehow come home and the war would end is pie in the sky --it ain't gonna happen like that, there aren't the votes to stop the war from getting funded, the only way to even come close would be to refuse to put forward any defense appropriation with Iraq Funding and our own caucus would probably, a third of them, bolt if the method was that extreme.

Electoral math, and those tactics are not adding up to success.

So stop blaming Pelosi for your lack of success on this, get her the votes she needs and it might change (from blue dogs and Republicans) and you'll have a shot, but they aren't changing their minds anywhere near enough to change this dynamic. This is their fault, not Pelosi's.

35. In the context of the thread, anything is not possible NOW or SOON
That's what I'm getting at.

And if it's going to be possible, you have to get a thicker skin so that you can help gather the support that's needed to change this dynamic.

And anyone who has defended Pelosi or Hillary on DU lately has taken a hell of a lot more shit than what my little post caused you. So, take a breathe and deal with it, you are in the minority in the party and your possibles aren't possible until you change that.

48. It's not just about you and my message did not single you out
But instead pointed at the type of criticism Pelosi has been getting which was the point of the thread to begin with and what we were ALL talking about.

The fact that it was a reply to you doesn't mean it was only about you, some of it was, most of it was not about you only, I don't know your posting history or every statement you made about Pelosi

However I do think it was ignorant of you to say it's possible, I never said it was impossible, I said it was extremely unlikely and if it were even possible, the cure could be worse than the disease --President Cheney for example?

But one thing I just can't countenance, and I don't know if you've ever done this, but many at DU have: that Pelosi and Reid are a) stupid b) not good at their jobs c) bought and paid for as the reason impeachment isn't happening.

Actually, they are good at their jobs and they know a heck of a lot and it could be the President Cheney thing (which Reid has mentioned as a BIG BIG concern). But stupid, no way.

And besides, imagine a vote in the Senate to impeach Bush and Cheney, 67 votes to oust Bush, 66 to oust Cheney. President Cheney. War with Iran. Congratulations, you are right, it is possible, but it is stupid.

And if it was extremely obvious, I would not ask what you meant.

I'm tired of the blame Pelosi and Hillary sentiment for the work of Bush, Cheney and the Republican congress. I've seen Pelosi enough to know that if the votes were out there to stop the madness, she would stop it --they aren't and that's the tragedy.

Pelosi is the left/liberal's ally, we don't have quite the numbers we need to change it. That's not her fault.

27. I don't think your explanation is adequate
The "no" is the case because the people clamoring for it are outnumbered, vastly so, by those that don't feel this way. Yes, most Democrats are against the war, No, most Democrats don't want to replace Pelosi. Yes, some Democrats are stridently against Hillary Clinton, No, they do not have anywhere near the support that Hillary has.

In other words, most of the things the most vocal here want they could have, if they could get much of the party behind them --they aren't and so far, the tactics have not been effective in changing that.

Case in point, all these folks who are anti Hillary here that say the familiar refrain, "I do not know anyone who likes Hillary" when in fact Hillary is liked a lot by MANY, MANY Democrats, in fact in my family, my aunt has liked Hillary a lot all along, my mom likes her, my other aunt loves Gore but in recent weeks has gotten to know more about Hillary and likes her, her coworkers, mostly black, like Hillary --somewhat because they really, really like Bill Clinton and the list goes on. I don't want to act like I know the mainstream of the party and the complainers don't --however, I think this is the case.

Heck, search my old messages, I was posting that she was not my preferred candidate for the nomination --she has been changing my mind of late and I may vote for her in the primary and may even give money and work for her too and there's a lot of company. Among the most liberal of the liberal voters, however, most people like Kucinich or Edwards (to gauge how mainstream their approach is), but the average, average Democrat is thinking Hillary now and is liking that more and more, day by day.

So, change the minds of people who like Hillary and you may be onto something, but the tactic of saying that the polls are wrong, nobody you know likes her, that we are fooled, etc., etc. is just not facing reality.

Hillary is liked by many, many Democrats, so is Pelosi and more than those Dems that don't like either. Face that reality and deal with it and you may have a chance to change it, if you don't face it, you simply will be left behind grousing about the choice the REST OF THE PARTY made because they outnumber your opinion.

And one final thought, if when you are unhappy, you sit out the election, the party will move rightward because it will learn that you are unreliable voters in the general election and because moderate Republicans and Independents are being alienated by the rightward shift of the Republican voters --they may decide it's easier to get those voters than to get yours which appear to be fickle.

Electoral math, politicians can do it, if you want to win this very, very important competition, I recommend you learn this new math too, otherwise don't complain that it's unfair when your choice loses --it's not, right now, it would be unfair if your choice won because your choice is not the choice of most Democrats. If you want that to change, make it so, don't whine.
