For the sanctimonious out there

Obama's Campaign Seems To Have A Drudge Pipeline, Too

22 Oct 2007 10:34 am

In today's New York Times, Jim Rutenberg reports on the curious, profitable alliance between Hillary Clinton and Matt Drudge, a connection mediated entirely through intermediaries.

For a while, Clinton seemed to be the only Democrat whose allies managed to open a pipeline to the South Florida-based web traffic master.

But not anymore.

When in early October a Clinton "source" leaked Drudge her third quarter fundraising numbers, a curious bit of counter spin appeared in a Drudge subhead just moments later.

It noted that Barack Obama had, in fact, raised more money for the entire year, and it used the exact same language than an e-mail sent to reporters later by the Obama campaign just happened to contain.

OMG you mean campaigns use the media to get their message out! Why I have never heard of such a thing!

:sarcasm:

2. I don't think either one of them should have anything to do with Drudge
But don't you think it's kind of odd for Clinton to reach out to him, considering the seminal role he played in the Lewinsky scandal?
I mean, I've heard of having a forgiving attitude, but come ON!

Compare and Contrast: Obama Versus Hillary On Drudge

Let's do this comparison just for fun.

Barack Obama just announced his fundraising numbers today, as you know. He went the conventional route, leaking the info to CNN, the Associated Press and MSNBC just before sending out a release. No leak to Matt Drudge. All he gets from Drudge is a measly headline.

Meanwhile, a few days earlier Camp Hillary went for the all-out Drudge splash, beginning its media rollout with a "detailed and accurate leak" to Drudge, according to this account, and was apparently rewarded.

* snip *

Just a million behind Clinton, with a much larger small-donor potential and much wider national appeal: Obama is the Democratic front-runner now. He has even managed the expectations game better than his rival. She panicked and bragged to Drudge. He kept his cool and will now have his own news cycle bump. Obama so far has proven himself a very smooth operator. He doesn't look like the freshman. She does.

6. The reference was to the 3rd quarter not the 1st.

7. If you are suggesting this is deja vu, that doesn't help.

4. It's one thing to use the media to get a message out.
Drudge is the media like the Enquirer is, and I doubt any Hillary supporter would be thrilled if other candidates used them to get a story out. It's bullshit for ANY of them to use this unholy ass.

I swear, every time I see something negative about Hillary or Obama I can guarantee someone will come along to show me just how much they both can suck instead of just one of them.

9. I think the point is that Hillary is using someone
who gave extensive, gleeful details about her husband's affair and impeachment proceedings.

The issue isn't whether or not other Democratic candidates or operatives "use" Drudge too. I assume they all do. Hillary has beef with Drudge at a very personal and even intimate level and that's what is newsworthy.
