GOP recommends 5 states lose half of their convention delegates - Quad City Times
http://www.qctimes.com/articles/2007/10/22/news/local/doc471cd7c782035721114012.prt

TODAY: (Updated 12:05 p.m.) WASHINGTON — Republican Party leaders today recommended punishing five states for shifting their nomination contests earlier, moving to strip New Hampshire, Florida, South Carolina, Michigan and Wyoming of half their delegates.

<snip>

Iowa, which plans to hold Republican caucuses on Jan. 3, would not be penalized because, technically, the caucuses are not binding on convention delegates. Nevada, which plans to hold its caucuses on Jan. 19, would not be penalized for the same reason.

``It's very important that our party uphold and enforce the rules that we unanimously voted into place at the Republican National Convention in 2004,'' said Mike Duncan, chairman of the Republican National Committee.

The rules ban holding votes before Feb. 5.

Wyoming is scheduled to hold its nominating conventions on Jan. 5. Michigan will hold its Republican primary on Jan. 15, South Carolina on Jan. 19 and Florida on Jan. 29.

New Hampshire has not yet set a primary date, though it is required by state law to hold its primary at least seven days before any other, raising the possibility of a December vote.

The Republican National Committee's executive committee voted unanimously to recommend the punishments, Duncan said.

Under the RNC's action, Florida would lose 57 delegates, Michigan 30, South Carolina 23, Wyoming 14 and New Hampshire 12.

7. Gotta buy some popcorn.
I can see multiple legal challenges to the results of this election based on all this crap.

2. Like we don't have more important issues?
I see that this is a really important issue--which state holds its primary/caucus first. Who cares? Are Iowan or New Hampshire voters better than voters anywhere else?

Just get the primaries over with (should all be on the same day/date) and let's pursue the presidency by supporting our chosen candidates.

I notice that the GOP debates are back to the old "value" issues. Like they didn't learn anything the past eight years about what is important to our nation?

The United States will not be the superpower much longer if we can't grow up!

5. You know, you are right
I have seen alot of posts lately on DU that were criticized, just like mine was.

And people make comments like they want to find a friendlier Democratic website. I can now understand why.

Please explain just what about my post you don't like..........

6. If this isn't an important issue to you and you have nothing positive to add
why not ignore the thread or just not post negative comments?

Why belittle what may be important to someone else just because you find no interest in it?

9. What the hell happened to dialog?
IS DU only to be posted on with happy positive comments?

I don't think so. I read debates on topics all the time!

Why do you say I don't take this issue seriously or consider it important? I just don't think it is necessary for Democrats to mess around with the primary calendars as they have been set up all these years. So, what is wrong with my having an OPINION???????

11. Please go back and read the subject line of your first post on this thread
Then tell me I'm supposed to have an open dialog with a person who has informed me that what I posted wasn't important.

Go ahead and state your opinion, you didn't break any rules by being abrasive and rude right from the get-go, but don't expect people to flock to your comments like bees to honey.

12. You took it as an affront to YOU?
My response had nothing to do with YOU!

It had to do with the topic--which was, I believe, about discord over when primaries are going to be held.

I think the topic of when primaries are held and in which order by which state is too unimportant, considering the other problems in the U.S., to have so much time spent on it.

Where is your name in that statement?
