Edwards attacks Clinton for her Iowa mailer explaining her Iran vote
http://www.iowapolitics.com/index.iml?Article=108156

Chapel Hill, North Carolina – John Edwards for President Campaign Manager, David Bonior, today released the following statement in response to Senator Clinton’s mailer to Iowa voters defending her Iran vote:

"This morning we see that Senator Clinton is defending her vote to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization. She was entitled to her vote just like she's entitled to defend it. The problem is her explanation to Iowa voters is different than her explanation to the New York Times. Her backers told the New York Times that her vote was about shifting from primary election mode to general election mode. Now she's telling Iowans something different. Apparently she has an Iowa mode and a Washington mode too.

"We have already seen the devastating consequences of triangulation and manipulation in Iraq. Particularly on the critical challenge on Iran, where the administration appears to be readying the guns of war, Democrats deserve a nominee who only has one mode - and that's ‘telling the truth’ mode."

4. Edwards banging the drums for war in Iran
http://www.herzliyaconference.org/Eng/_Articles/Article.asp?ArticleID=1728&CategoryID=223
... ...Iran must know that the world won’t back down. The recent UN resolution ordering Iran to halt the enrichment of uranium was not enough. We need meaningful political and economic sanctions. We have muddled along for far too long. To ensure that Iran never gets nuclear weapons, we need to keep ALL options on the table, Let me reiterate – ALL options must remain on the table. ... ...-- John Edwards January 2007

12. He's not banging drums for war, he's banging drums for talk--
for negotiation and undertaking this with other countries as well. That's far different than a vote declaring the rev. guard a terrorist group, we all know where this went last time around.

You cannot give Bush anything that would allow him to take us into Iran, we did that with Iraq and now see the folly. Nobody wants WWIII, negotiation and reason will have to prevail. Did you forget there are two nut-jobs, they are both intent on Armageddon.
Let's not drag Edwards down, he's right, so is Biden - neither of them voted with Hillary on this. Sorry, penguin, nice catch but WRONG explanation.

10. I wonder how Edwards would have voted on K-L
Pressure Iran to stop supporting insurgents in Iraq. Iran is one of the most dangerous countries in the world, actively supporting terrorist and insurgent activity not only in Iraq but in other areas, such as Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. Our policy must aim to stamp out state-sponsored terrorism targeting Israel, our strongest ally in the region. Iran’s Revolutionary Guard will soon be deemed a terrorist organization by the U.S. As president, Edwards will ensure that such steps are not just more rhetoric, but actually lead to results. He will increase both diplomatic contact with the Iranian government and diplomatic pressure on the Revolutionary Guard to shut down its support of insurgent activity in Iraq and in other areas, such as Lebanon and the Palestinian territories. He will also work with multilateral partners to forge a coalition to apply diplomatic and economic pressure to stop Iran’s involvement in insurgent and terrorist activity in Iraq.

John Edwards 08

“We cannot allow Iran to have nuclear weapons,” he declared, endorsing America’s current approach of working with the Europeans using diplomatic levers.

But he said the “carrots” on offer have to come with heavy pressure, such as “serious sanctions.”

In terms of the “stick” of military strikes, he said, “I would never take any option off the table.”

“Israel is in the unfortunate position of having to act without an agreement. I think American are supportive of that and want to be helpful in that effort - including me,” he said.

Those words were stronger than those used by President George W. Bush to assess the realignment plan during Olmert’s visit to the Oval Office last month.

-snip

The trip was arranged by the American-Israel Education Foundation, an AIPAC sister organization. Each year the foundation hosts dozens of congressmen, presidential candidates, political consultants and other American political heavyweights.

14. I understand that Clinton has to walk that fine line of looking tough
and then tempering back and I also see why Edwards would say what he said about Iran and then jump on Hillary for voting to declare the Iranian Revolutionary Guard as a terrorist organization. My question is, who is it going to hurt the most if we do insanely bomb Iran in the next few months. The nightmare that will result from that disastrous move would probably come down harder on Hillary's candidacy than Edwards or Biden. To me, Biden always seems to say what I want to hear. I haven't made up my mind yet, not that it's going to make much difference because I'm voting in Florida. I'm not totally against Obama as long as he could surround himself with good knowledgable people, uh, like BIDEN. My only hope is that Hillary doesn't really have it totally wrapped up already. Nothing against Hillary. I vote Democrat. It's just that I want to see more of a tussle, ideas against ideas. I don't want any shue-ins this early.
