Another HORRIBLE quote from Donnie McClurkin
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 05:24 PM by geek tragedy
``What I say in the book is simply this: If you're gay, and you're happy, if you don't think you need to change, stay just how you are.

:wtf:

More outrageous stuff:

Yet he's also critical of church leaders who demonize homosexuals from the pulpit.

``You've got the church people who are lambasting and so demeaningly preaching hard against the person and not the sin. You've got the preachers calling them names,'' he says. ``We become harsh and we haven't portrayed the love of Jesus Christ.''

1. Only a partial quote, why am I not surprised...
Entire first quote:

``They have to vilify the one that's saying there is hope, there is help, there's an out,'' he says. ``What I say in the book is simply this: If you're gay, and you're happy, if you don't think you need to change, stay just how you are. But there are some people who are in the gay and bisexual lifestyle that are broken; that's why the suicide rate is so high.''

No dipshit, the suicide rate is high because they are told something is wrong with them in the first place, asshole.

The second quote is just a variation of "hate the sin, love the sinner" which is a bunch of bullshit.

2. Remember that he's a rape/incest survivor.
Yeah, he's messed up and projecting a lot of his own personal demons on to others.

But, he ain't Dobson.

7. The point of this post is that he
is NOT demonizing.

He has his own messed up personal experience, which he projects on to others.

But he's not demonizing.

9. He campaigned against frigging Harvey Milk High School.
Where gay and lesbian youth can go for an education without fear of violence. He is a horrible, horrible man.

12. I'll agree he's not demonizing, he's doing something worse, giving false hope...
How many kids will kill themselves because they can't be fixed like McCloset was fixed? What he is doing and saying is downright evil.

4. There are a lot more folks that have suffered just as badly as he did...
and they didn't turn into assholes because of it. Its no excuse for how messed up he is, if he has some personal problems to deal with, then he should deal with them, don't project them out and damage other people because of it.

5. Being raped is terrible and all...
But using that as an excuse to support his anti-gay bigotry? NO THANKS!

8. Does he ever wonder why the suicide rate is so high?
Bigotry and hatred toward gays maybe? Being told you're evil, sinful, an abomination, "cursed" (a McClurkin special), perverted, etc. Being disowned by your own family because of the bullsh*t religion has drilled into their heads about how abominable gays are? Being subject to myriad forms of abuse from any and every segment of the community.

Don't you imagine that might be a major contributing factor to the high suicide rate among gay people?

6. In your quote, he calls homosexuality a sin. Will Obama denounce him?
I doubt it.
But here's my prediction:
All the DUers defending Obama's embrace of this bigot will praise Obama if he denounces this bigot.
Perhaps with experience Obama will learn how to handle matters of this kind more responsibly.

10. He won't denounce McClurkin.
Just like no one else in the field has denounced someone for having this guy's views.

13. Do you understand how incredibly offensive it is
to post crap like "hate the sin, love the sinner" on a liberal site?

This is rightwing garbage. Being gay is no more of a sin than being left handed.

You're just digging a deeper hole.

And, yes, it IS outrageous stuff.

17. Yes, I understand that what he says is a bunch of crap.
However, this isn't some standard issue gay hater like Dobson.

"Love is pulling you one way and lust is pulling you another and your relationship with Jesus is tearing you," McClurkin told the media. He now "counsels adolescent boys that homosexuality is a choice they can overcome," the New York Times reported.

"What influenced me is seeing people, young people especially, who are being totally decimated in their sexuality. It's amazing how we turn a blind eye to the fact that our children are directly influenced by what they see and what society portrays as normal living. Homosexuality has really ravished our children. It started in my generation. I was touched by it and I struggled with it and all that for years and there was nobody to deal with it. I started dealing with it in my sermons and even when we do our concerts."

"The gloves are off," he told the 700 Club. "And if there's going to be a war, there's going to be a war."

I'd like to find a full transcript of that 700 Club interview. It seems that there was some really juicy stuff in there.

Here's the one that Obama NEEDS to see:
