HRC may be polorizing, but she should be able to win the Kerry states from 2004
www.electoral-vote.com has a map from 2004.....Now that the Republican proposal in California w/the splitting of electoral votes is dead, the Democratic candiate (whomever it is) should easily win CA & its 55 EV's....I know some people will say Pennsylvania might turn red if HRC runs, but I don't know..Allegheny & Philadelphia counties are Democratic strongholds (esp. Philly) & I doubt a Rethug would win PA...

In any event, in addition to the Kerry states, HRC would likely win Arkansas & take its 6 EV's..If HRC selected Richardson for VP, then New Mexico could very well go blue....So that's 263 EV's....So, she'd then need to just pick up one of following: Colorado, Virgina, Missouri, or Iowa....And this isn't even counting the dreaded Ohio or Florida, 2 states which tend to throw away, lose, or just not count the Democratic candiates' votes...

2. that's a bit of a stretch
wisconsin wasn't much of a bLowout, and that was with bush running. if michigan gets disenfranchised, don't count on that state either. new hampshire is never a Lock.

now, put some as poLarizing as hiLLary on the baLLot, and you'LL be Lucky to get kerry's states. she may not even win arkansas dpending on who the nominee is.

4. Any of our candidates will carry Kerry's states and will win Ohio. We will win in 08.
Any of our candidates can win. Just who do we choose?

5. It depends on her who opponent is really
Whoever wins the repuke nomination will make all the difference.

Some candidates like Romney poll ridiculously low against every democrat, but in my opinion it's probably from lack of name recognition, which means that it'll get closer there once the nominees are chosen.

Against Rudy there may very well be a third party religious right candidate, in which case it would open up a huge opportunity for Hillary or any democrat. Rudy was endorsed by the liberal party in New York each time he ran for mayor, while the conservative party endorsed a third party candidate, so beating that over religious right voters could throw swing states our way. If there isn't a third party candidate then we're going to be in trouble, unless we can somehow expose and convince the American people that Rudy has zero experience fighting terrorism and would make us less safe by going into more wars that would turn out similar to the Iraq war.

Against Mitt Romney we could easily use the flip flopper attack right back at the GOP just like they did to Kerry. There's so much flip flipping dirt on him, his wallet won't be able to buy his way out of that.

Against Fred Thompson I'm sure his history as a lobbyist would give us a great supply of negative attack ads against him. Then there's the whole lazy factor, and his lack of accomplishments in the senate. I think Fred is beatable against Hillary, though I must admit I'm uncertain how strong of a general election candidate he'd be.

Against John McCain (I highly doubt he'll get the nomination though) we'd have the fact that he's lost his base of independent support in our favor, and his very strong support for the Iraq war. We could make it be all about Iraq, "I'll get us out of Iraq, my opponent will just continue the failed Bush strategy in Iraq and continue to waste billions on it". Then there's all of his flip flopping to suck up to the right wingers and get the nomination we could remind voters of.

6. I don't see HRC winning WI, MI or PA
Edited on Mon Oct-22-07 10:17 PM by zulchzulu

Many Democrats will be disgusted with the idea of voting for her, but that's besides the point. What would truly be tragic are all the negative coat tails that her nomination would bring nationally. I'd even go so far as to say that California and Oregon would be close, if not turn red.

One thing you can count on... the Republicans would be out in full force while the Democrats would stay home or vote for a third party.
