Speaker Pelosi was wonderful on Tavis Smiley, PBS last night
Edited on Tue Oct-23-07 09:37 AM by SharonAnn
Nancy Pelosi appeared on PBS, the Tavis Smiley show last night in our area (Knoxville). I didn't know she was going to be on and happened to catch the start of the show as I went to turn of the set and go to bed. Fortunately, I decided to stay up and watch and listen.

Though frustrated by Congress lately, especially on the Iraq occupation and the S-Chip bill that wasn't passed, I understand better now what is happening and how effective she has been in accomplishing other things.

Effective politicians have to take into account the situation they're dealing with, the objectives of all those who have or can affect votes, and has to find combinations of carrots and sticks to get enough votes cast to pass the desired legislation. It ain't easy.

Anyway, she was incredibly effective in communicating Democratic objectives and exactly what the Republican obstructionism was costing Americans.

I wish it were easier to just ramrod things through, but I guess that would mean the bad things could be ramrodded through, too. We've seen the effect of the Republican ramrodding tactics and it's not pretty.

1. Recommended.

I wish I had seen that. Some need to be reminded of the limitations of politics in general, and the limits of a thin majority in particular.

Now: Prepare for the flamers.

3. Then she & the other dems NEED to get this message to the masses.
They need to go on every news program & let the country KNOW what kind of obstructionism they are facing, and they need to tell constituents WHAT TO DO about it. If they're serious about taking this country back from the forces of darkness, they need WE, THE PEOPLE.

And they can start by kicking the media's ass around the block a time or two.

5. Right like that is going to happen.
Just remember the press and the rest of the media is in bush's pocket. The corporations will not allow the truth to see the light of day. They will only allow the republican view of the world. She cannot get on the news programs because they only ask the negative democrat or slimy republicans to participate.

8. Unfortunately, you're correct. But "leadership" is what is needed now.
And leadership would dictate that Nancy & Harry get EVERY dem in their chamber (except the DLCers, who are, of course, republicans) to talk it up every chance they get, every time they can. They can go on Jon Stewart, Bill Maher, KEITH OLBERMANN, and write letters in their local newspapers.

WE are the ones doing all the fucking work, and it's time our so-called "leaders" started taking some fucking initiative, if they're as serious about it as the OP seems to indicate.

10. agreed. I cannot bear what is happening now. And she is the 'leader'
who is in charge, votes or not. America is going to hell and we're all just watching. Amazing. I'm glad I'm old.

7. She also recently did an interview on Huffingtonpost
I just went there and couldn't find the one I watched. A video, obviously.

But she still doesn't set off my bs detector. And never has. She repeated that she insists on stopping the war before this guy is out of office. Sorry, I just can't get myself to say "president". Haha.

It's a mystery to me why impeachment hasn't started.

9. I am alerting on this thread and hope it gets LOCKED
As a 'lockstep' and 'blindly loyal' partisan, I am appalled that a thread praising Pelosi is being allowed.

In case it isn't obvious, this post is entirely sarcasm and satire. KnR.

11. I'm glad it's sarcasm. I respect your posts and was at first startled.
She really was good and held my attention during the entire time. Tavis asked meaningful questions and gave her time to answer each one as fully as she wanted. Also, she was very clear and succinct. No "unhs", and "hmms, and other inarticulate time fillers because she doesn't know what to say or can't read a script or can't hear what's being fed through ear pieces.

It's actually a pleasure to listen to her (and others) who can speak clearly and explain things. So unlike * and the GOP 'droids who repeat the talking points ad infinitum.
