Sen. Kerry queries Bush admin on Blackwater taxes
Tue Oct 23, 2007 4:57pm EDT

By Kevin Drawbaugh

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. Sen. John Kerry on Tuesday
asked the Bush administration about any role it played in
the possible evasion of nearly $32 million in taxes by
Blackwater USA, the private security firm already under
scrutiny over the killing of Iraqi civilians.

"The Bush administration can't hide Blackwater in the
shadows anymore -- it's time to bring all of their dealings
to light," Kerry, a Massachusetts Democrat and chairman
of the Senate's Small Business Committee, said in a
statement.

Kerry sent a letter to the Small Business Administration
(SBA), which his committee oversees, expressing concern
that Blackwater relied on an SBA decision for tax purposes.

Blackwater faced questions on Monday when another
Democratic lawmaker accused it of "significant tax
evasion."

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee
Chairman Henry Waxman, a California Democrat, alleged
that Blackwater failed "to withhold and pay millions
of dollars in Social Security, Medicare, unemployment
and related taxes."

3. Nice to see Prosecutor Kerry getting involved with this scandal.
He's very good at this sort of thing. It will be interesting to see what the SBA did in this case.

4. 32 MILLION DOLLARS! That must of been some help they gave Bush getting elected.
The amount of money involved in this highly probable case of tax fraud should cause an outrage. We are all responsible for paying our taxes, they should be too. This should not be about the parties- the possible deception on the part of the administration and Blackwater should anger Republicans as well as Democrats. This should not be swept under the rug or defended by Republican's if it is true. And, I would guess that with Sen. Kerry questioning Blackwater's "bookkeeping", there is very good reason to believe it is and evidence to back up the accusations.

Go Senator Kerry! Heads should roll!
