Poll question: Who is the better Senator?
Edited on Wed Oct-24-07 02:07 PM by rateyes
I'm doing an experiment. I hear all the time that ANY Democrat is better than ANY Republican.

Therefore, I am picking the state of Nebraska and asking the question, "who is the better Senator, Chuck Hagel or Ben Nelson?"

Edit for punctuation.

1. while Hagel's opposition to the war is laudible
He is dangerously conservative. Dangerous to the nation, like Ron Paul, one good point

2. Here's an answer for you, with a quote from another thread:

"People say we're not fighting for oil. Of course we are," said the Republican Senator from Nebraska Chuck Hagel to law students of Catholic University last September. "They talk about America's national interest. What the hell do you think they're talking about? We're not there for figs."

Can't imagine Ben Nelson saying that--Chimpy and the Republicans might get mad at him! Hagel has shown WAY more leadership in the Senate than Nelson could ever hope to, and is far more ethical.

3. True enough but
Nelson votes to organize with the dems, and his vote along with other conservative dems who also vote that way means that Babara Boxer Chairs Environment and Public works, rather than Inhof. Doesn't that count for something?

5. Nelson's useful as a Dem in the Senate, but that's not the question--
the question as I read it is, who is the better Senator? In other words, who uses his voice and his position as a Senator in a more effective way, for his state and country? Not "who is the better Democrat".

4. By the way, neither are "bad" Senators--that's just an easy out for
people who don't want to vote the wrong way. I reserve "bad" for the Vitters, the Allards, the Stevens, the Inhofes--Senators who are either do-nothings or downright counterproductive.

7. Good point, I really couldn't vote for any of those choices...
some days Nelson is better than Hagel and some days vice versa.
