Don't expect a huge GOP voter turnout in Southern California.

The truth is wildfires can't be stopped. They more or less burn themselves out no matter what you try and do. However the response can save a lot of buildings. The areas of these current So Cal wildfires ain't the traditional "Left coast" boys.

This here is GOP territory. Or it used to be. Places that send assholes like Duncan Hunter, Mary Bono, and even Randy Duke Cunningham to office.

(Cunningham wasn't immediately available for comment from his suite at the Tuscon Federal penitentiary in Arizona).

So when the clean up, aftermath and typical insurance scams get run on these GOP types who've lost their homes?

Well don't expect a lot of republican politicos showing up in San Diego or Orange Counties. At least not looking to raise money.

It's no secret that California and every other state in the nation has a critical shortage of National Guard equipment and troops. San Diego and other parts of So Cal are friggin GONE. We really don't know at this point what is missing but it ain't gonna be pretty when the smoke finally clears. Literally.

...."A lot of equipment has gone to Iraq, and it doesn't come back when the troops come back,'' Schwarzenegger said Thursday at a news conference in Sacramento, where he was asked about the National Guard. "So this is one thing we have been talking about, how do we get this equipment back as quickly as possible in case we need it, and we also need it for training.''....

I for one don't expect to be very pleased with the devastation. Fires may be natural but things look really ugly afterwards. And if I don't like it you can rest assured that the San Diego County homeowners ain't gonna be too happy with it either.

This won't play well with the GOP either. TONS of cash gets raised in these areas for republican leaders. While it is true that CA won't collectively vote republican anymore (except in certain local pockets) the money they do raise in So Cal is beyond enormous.

Expect a whole lot of really angry republican homeowners even more pissed at Bush and FEMA after the insurance companies screw them over. The fire aftermath will drag on and on and on and on. Each day passing putting another stake in the heart of failed GOP policy.

And that is the silver lining to the horror.

See? Always pays to be optimistic!

1. Someone I worked with at the Amphib base in San Diego lost everything she owned...
...in the fires of 2003. I saw how devistating this can be and how it almost ruined her. I wouldn't wish it on anyone, regardless of the potential political gain. My karma is clean, and I'd like to keep it that way.

2. I took it as more of a political analysis
However, I do agree that crowing about the misfortune of others - any others - isn't good for the Karma.

4. Exactly
Who wants harm done to anyone?

Well i wouldn't mind seeing a person named Scaife or Murdoch go bankrupt. But otherwise I don't wish ill upon the San Diego and other Southern CA republicans. Not as individuals.

I just predicting that the firestorm aftermath won't sit well with the regular GOP donor base.

And a LOT of campaign money comes out of San Diego and Orange Counties.
