Pelosi: Rising Cost of War Adds to Depth of Tragedy in Iraq. WELL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!
Edited on Thu Oct-25-07 03:00 PM by dajoki
Lets see if this rhetoric means anything this time. We all remember what happened the last time a war funding bill was voted on. Now she says: "we will hold the President’s request for nearly $200 billion more to the highest level of scrutiny." and "it is time the President listened."

The highest level of scrutiny, shouldn't that be automatic? Why was the last bill not held in that regard? Not only concerning money, but we are talking about people's lives here, our own troops and the Iraqi people's. That should be the highest priority!!

As for the President listening, why should he? Bush is so used to getting his own way that he has no incentive to listen. The Dem leadership and Congress persons must send him a clear message and keep sending the proper bill back to him again and again, as many times as it takes, despite his veto threat, like they should have done last time. If he refuses to sign it, well then maybe the American people will realize where the problem is. Maybe they will hold him accountable instead of the "do nothing" Congress.

The Dems are the majority, its time they start acting like it. If they want to end this war, they can.

Pelosi: Rising Cost of War Adds to Depth of Tragedy in Iraq
http://speaker.gov/newsroom/pressreleases?id=0374

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today after the Congressional Budget Office released a new report on the rising cost of the war in Iraq:

“President Bush envisions a 10-year war in Iraq that the Congressional Budget Office now estimates will cost taxpayers nearly $2 trillion over the next decade. That estimate is a far cry from the Administration’s original claim of a $50 billion price that the Iraqis could pay themselves. The depth of this tragedy is stunning, particularly for our military families — and for prospects for peace in the region.

“In the wake of Congressional hearings into billions of dollars lost to waste, fraud and abuse in Iraq, and given the continuing scandals over contractors such as Blackwater USA, we will hold the President’s request for nearly $200 billion more to the highest level of scrutiny.

“The majority of the American people and many of our most respected retired military commanders have made clear their preference for a responsible redeployment; it is time the President listened."

1. Well, Ms. Pelosi; let's pretend the President is listening
What are you saying? I mean, besides "Thank you sir; may I have another?"

2. Maybe we should take funding the war 'off the table?'
Isn't that how Nancy deals with big problems?
