Poll question: Have Clinton's DU supporters exploited the McClurking thing to destory Obama?
This is a legitimate issue, and Obama's camp screwed up, but do you think that at ton of gasoline has been poured on this issue to destroy Obama politically?

18. I am an undecided voter. To this point I've ruled no one in or out.
But the way Obama has handled this situation is bothersome to me. Genuinely.

2. No; some are making asses of themselves
most are playing reasonably well. And some are even trying to rein in LooneyTunes2.

5. You do realize that so many of us that are angry
with the Obama campaign and its failure to correct this situation are *not* Clinton supporters, right? I hope so. Some of us care more about our innate and essential identities, as well as our human rights, than about our candidates.

6. Well, Obama is black
and Democratic party isn't exactly the party of "equality" as it paints itself to be. Even though it the lesser evil of the 2 parties, racism still exists w/in it.

14. You can't deny it,
that it doesn't exist. This party has taken our votes for granted for too long.

I've been supporting this party since I was 10 (96' Election) and I moved to the States when I was nine.

15. Well I don't believe that the Dem party as a whole
is racist, and you also can't deny that they take the GLBT vote for granted either. :)

21. Willy Horton. Bush senior used him to frighten Americans into voting for him.
Republicans do not care whom they hurt. If they have to portray African-Americans as dangerous criminals they will do so, if it wins them an election.

That being said, more than a few clearly are.

19. Oh, no doubt they have.
Everything, even the slightest misstep by a candidate can and will be used to destroy them by the opposition. Sad to say that is just the state of politics, and DU is no different. This McClurkin thing is a legit issue but unfortunately it's getting turned into a political football by the more rabid Clinton supporters.

At the same time I don't like the implication on some of these threads (not accusing you of this, hon, just speaking of other threads) that everyone who has a problem with Obama's actions is a rabid Clinton supporter. Some of us are just gay folk tired of defending our right to exist, much less prosper like anyone else.

20. That is my dilema, this is a legit issue but its also being exploited by some. . .
. . .so its getting tougher to know who is offended and who is exploiting it.

25. I reject the notion

that DU can make or break any of the candidates. it's fun to
discuss the issues and the campaign strategies, but having that
sort of cataclysmic affect on the race is just beyond our reach.

the issue isn't whether obama is a homophobe; of course he isn't.
but this is the sort of campaign misstep that inexperienced campaigns
make, and the problem with that is that his worthwhile message is
getting drowned out in all the static.

27. Hahaha
You act as though DU is representative of the real world.

The things many DUers obsess over are often little noticed in reality. These details DUers seize on and spend days posting/fighting about I rarely hear mention of outside of the DU bubble.

I urge all DUers to sign up with a local or state level campaign this cycle and hit the doors with your candidate. You will have a real eye opener of an experience in regard to what's REALLY on the minds of the masses.

31. Nope. Obama could have easily defused the whole thing AND
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 07:54 AM by trotsky
been totally forgiven by, I'm assuming, almost all the critics of this incident if he had just dropped McClurkin from the get-go.

But Obama wants to keep the gay-basher AND keep the GLBT vote.

(I should note here that while have I been one of the vocal critics, I don't support Hillary either.)
