Honestly, what would you do if the Bush Administration attacked Iran..
What would you do...

What could you do...

What could congress do...

We all, meaning the people on DU, did what we could to stop Iraq and it did absolutely nothing...

What do you do when your country acts on your behalf and you believe with a certainty so strong you can taste it in your mouth and feel it in you gut that it is wrong...

What would you do...

What should you do...

Because people, it's coming...

I can feel it in my gut...

What are you going to do if the missles start flying...

How does it feel to be totaly without power, without a say in what is going on in your name as an American...

How did it come to this...

What will we tell out children...

If any of us are left...

That once there was a place that held a promise for the future...

Once there was a great country...

Once we stood for something...

Once we had a chance and we tossed it all away...

We let it slip away into oblivian...

23. Sept 2001 Authorization for Use of Military Force (AUMF) and Oct 2002 Iran AUMF
Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 01:39 PM by EVDebs
Sept. 18, 2001 AUMF
http://news.findlaw.com/wp/docs/terrorism/sjres23.es.html

and

Oct. 2, 2002 AUMF/ IWR
http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2002/10/20021002-2.html

Note each resolution gives Bush '...as he determines...' powers. Note also that in both the War Powers Resolution is embedded.

War Powers Resolution of 1973
http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/warpower.htm

This law requires Bush & Co. to adhere to "clear" -- read truthful-- "circumstances" and "situations". If the WMDs were bogus, then the 2002 resolution needs to be revisited, as Sen Warner has noted in the past.

Furthermore, the terrorist organization language in the 2001 AUMF, which is being used to describe the Iran Revolutionary Guard and Quds Force and Iranian military as terrorist groups, is already in place should Bush decide to "unleash the hounds".

This could be the reason why lately the media has played up the 'nutty' 9-11 Truth movement and not mentioned at all the Jersey Girls 9-11 Press For Truth movement. If the real facts of 9-11 were to be revealed as a false flag operation for example, and a revisit of THAT AUMF looked into, you would have no doctrine of pre-emption as the Bush Administration seeks to employ in the ME.

Treason, by using a false pretext for not one but TWO wars, is a war crime. Sorry to bring up such inconvenient facts but that's the case and I can still speak truth to power (at least until Cheney decides to start the next war and I'm off to a concentration camp).

25. Hate to think so
But maybe that's why he continues to call it a war. To continue his authority along that line. Fact is, the war is over, we won. We're only cleaning up/recovering from the war disaster now.

I always wondered why he never emphasized that as a talking point.

But like you allude, maybe there is a reason....

Bush is only required to consult Congress. He then has 60-90 days to do whatever he wants regardless of what Congress thinks. Plus, this Congress?

It's not a good thing when you've got a religious zealot who has promised to destroy Israel developing nuclear weapons. Having said that, I think this is more Israel's problem than ours and I'd like to see them do their own dirty work for a change.

46. WTH? Ahmadinejad has NOT "promised to destroy Israel"! That's a bullshit talking point put out by
the warmongers. He may be a "religious zealot" but he's neither insane or suicidal. He'd like to see the end of Zionism -- so would most of the people in that region of the world -- but he has never directly threatened to attack Israel the way Israel is constantly directly threatening to attack Iran.

The IAEA has found no evidence that Iran is developing nuclear weapons. The Ayatollahs who rule Iran have issued a fatwah against developing nuclear weapons. The Iranians just may be telling the truth when they insist that all they are looking to do is to develop nuclear energy generating capability.

The hysteria about Iran is ridiculous. I personally think they should get nuclear weapons, it might sober people up. MAD might be just what that region needs.

and kiss my ass good-bye. Apparently, Putin and Iran's leadership have a plan:

A high-level diplomatic source in Tehran tells Asia Times Online that essentially Putin and the Supreme Leader have agreed on a plan to nullify the George W Bush administration's relentless drive towards launching a preemptive attack, perhaps a tactical nuclear strike, against Iran. An American attack on Iran will be viewed by Moscow as an attack on Russia.

Edited on Fri Oct-26-07 05:42 PM by Mike03
I've been preparing for a disaster for more than four years; however, it's easy to get complacent. I would probably go to the store and stock up (more) on water, basic essentials, canned goods. I might withdraw a lot of cash. I might liquedate a lot of my conventional (i.e., non-gold, non-petroleum) investments, at least for the short term.

Then I would lay low and observe.

Also, I would try one last time to encourage my family to do the same. My implorations that they prepare for something major have, for the most part, fallen on deaf ears.

http://www.thenation.com/blogs/thebeat?bid=1&pid=246120

"And, as in 2002 and early 2003, the most rational response is coming from Congressman Dennis Kucinich, the Ohio Democrat who says, "After the lies and deception used to lead us to war in Iraq, the belligerent Bush Administration cannot be given leeway with statements that suggest a preemptive attack on Iran is necessary," says Kucinich, a candidate for the Democratic presidential nod who deserves a much better hearing that he has been afforded so far by the media and Democratic power brokers. "We are systematically destroying every available route to restoring peace and security in the Middle East," he adds.

Kucinich may be running for the White House, but his message is most relevant to Capitol Hill. "Congress," he says, "must take back its exclusive authority to declare war from the Bush Administration."

He's right.

But being right is not always enough in tenuous times.

Being heard is what matters."

other than to make sure that I NEVER cast a vote for anyone who leaves war on the table as a viable international relations policy.

I would, just as I have with Iraq, join up with other individuals, form groups to oppose it. And hope we could be even larger, even louder, and that enough of the people who keep voting warmongers into office would finally wake up and join us that we could put enough people in Washington to block such efforts in the future.
