As members of the grassroots, we are at a great disadvantage when seeking the end of this evil regime.
Our first handicap, and it is formidable, is that our purported "leadership" is not leading the battle. In fact, our leadership is doing nothing to stop the madness. An ocassional Representative or Senator may take a stand, and if lucky, be ignored by the rest. If unlucky, that brave soul will be forced to recant by public denounciation by the so-called leadership!
The way we are working around this is by gravitating and supporting real leaders: people who find they have nothing left to lose and go publicly into battle. People like Cindy Sheehan, Medea Benjamin, Naomi Klein, Valerie Plame, Joe Wilson and Noam Chomsky. Add your own "citizen heroes" to the list. We support the best, and starve the rest. Let them eat off the Corporate Table. That's a good way to get food poisoning. Pretty soon it will dawn on them that while they have all the money they need, they no longer have the public support and votes! We must clean our own house (and Senate) of those who betray the country by their passive tolerance or willing support of the evil this crime family has done and continues to do.
Our second major handicap is the captive Mainstream Media. Time was when Cronkite, Brokaw, Jennings and their peers fought corruption with the cleansing Truth. Those days are gone, maybe forever. But with the Internet and the Worldwide Web, we are fighting back. We have established a freedom of the press that our Founding Fathers couldn't even have imagined in their wildest dreams. And we are using it to inform and educate ourselves and others, talking at the 24 hour coffee klatch with our neighbors, no matter where they are on this small planet. And it is working! Our third major handicap is a good example of this power of the press at work:
Our third major stumbling block is the rigged election machinery. But with our power of the press, we have been able to start purging the election process of these engines of fraud and theft. It is actually working!
Our fourth major handicap, the all-powerful, dominant GOP, is self-destructing. Between the pederasts, the prostitutes, the conmen, the nasty divorces, the crooks, the torture, and the war, the GOP is torn by strife, and will soon cease to exist as a viable party. It is especially gratifying to see the military turn its back on its abusers, for those that look to the military for leadership will also turn away. We must try to see that there is something for all these people who love the country sincerely to turn to: something positively American and Constitutional.
This is our challenge: to make the Democratic Party live up to its potential, while dismantling the criminal enterprise that pretends to be our government. We have some tools, and we become more skillful with them every day. I only hope we can do enough soon enough to save our nation and the larger world from the devastation that Bush and Cheney and their enablers have unleashed.
