Laura Bush accuses Democrats of demagoguery on SCHIP
New meme: Blame Laura, TOO!

Laura Bush accuses Democrats of demagoguery on SCHIP
By Aaron Blake
October 28, 2007

First Lady Laura Bush said Sunday that she’s much more involved in policy than many people think and then went to bat for her husband on children’s health care and foreign policy.

Calling the state children’s health insurance program (SCHIP) “a perfect issue” for Democrats to demagogue on, Bush waded into largely uncharted public territory for her by taking exception to the party that opposes the president.

The first lady appeared genuinely upset about the Democrats’ tactics on the issue.

“It’s really easy to blame people for so-called voting against children,” Bush said in an interview on Fox News Sunday. The first lady went on to say that the bill would cover children who are not poor and added that the program is often used to cover adults.

“The president is very anxious to work with Congress and to come up with something that both he and they can be proud of,” she said.

Bush also insisted the perception of her staying out of her husband’s policies is false.

“The fact is I’ve been involved for a long time in policy, and I think I just didn’t get a lot of coverage on it,” Bush said. “I was stereotyped as being a certain way because I was a librarian and a teacher…which are considered traditional women’s careers.”

6. There is Nothing He Can Do
There is nothing her husband can do that he could be proud of now unless he resigns. He could be proud of helping to save America by resigning before he causes any more angst for this country and for the world.

As for her husband 'wanting to work with the Congress'...ya have to admit her drugs are working.

5. "because I was a librarian and a teacher"
The TOTAL time she spent on both of these "careers" was about 5 years.

Hell, I've had contracting jobs longer than that.

9. I used to cut her slack. My mistake. Throw her butt out, too.
Yeah, Mr. and Ms. "Compassionate Conservative." Their formula for SCHIP, if they had the power? End it, turn the money over to the oil companies, and have the Dems apologize for ever bringing it up.

What a sorry excuse for a human being she turned out to be. Like mother-in-law, like daughter-in-law. She and Babs are two of a kind.

10. There is something inherrently disgusting about having the privleged
discuss what is "good" for poor children.

I respect Librarians, she was no Librarian, she stocked shelves w/books that were returned. Naturally, she would never see bush in the library, unless he stopped by to use the bathroom, or perhaps was there for a pre-school "reading is fundemental" presentaion of the "Little Engine That Could", or "the Pet Goat".

Just thinking about this reminds me that for a "Librartian", she is remarkably inept at the language, knowledge, or anything else. If she was a Librarian, she was a terrible one; the Libarians I have know are smartt, have a good command of the language, and revere books, all books. They are more often liberal/progressive than not, and they have a deep respect for those who use the facilities they are serving.

13. I would like a really serious answer to this question
I was watching other programming this morning and did not see Laura Bush on Fox.

Did she truly say in so many words that she's much more involved in policy than many people think? Yes, I am reading it now, but was this tongue in cheek or a silly joke or something?

My republican friends are always bragging about how Laura Bush stays out of politics.

Is her dabbling actually legal?

It is a congressional publication when congress is in session...

Is it democrat or republican in its leanings? I looked at its website and can't really tell.

19. I'll get her in a room and close the door and then ask her "What have you got against my grandson?"
I will explain what this little kid's parents went through when he was turned down for health insurance because he wore glasses. His father is a musician with no health insurance and his mother, my daughter, is currently unemployed, staying at home taking care of her little boy.

This kid is 3 1/2 years old. He has some sensory processing issues that demand early intervention for services, such as occupational therapy and behavior modification. These services will in time make him fine, but they are crucial NOW.

Laura, you've got to stop this. You are wrong. And you are wrong in the worst sense. I would not want to have your conscience, to even THINK that for ONE moment your actions could deny a service to one child who needed it.

I am one ANGRY grandma...
