"We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny" - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Coretta Scott King quoting a passage from the writings of her late husband, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., during a lecture:

"We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny - I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be." King continued to tell the crowd, "I've always felt that homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy."

She said the civil rights movement "thrives on unity and inclusion, not division and exclusion." Her husband's struggle parallels that of the gay rights movement, she said.

3. Too bad their youngest daughter - Rev. B. King didn't get the message.
She is a hate mongering "christian".

5. she's a hate mongerer pretending to be Christian. Looking at her
parents shows what a real Christian is. Her father's loss I still feel, in shock and lost hope for the world. WHat a terrible year it was when he was lost. Can you IMAGINE what he could do in the world now? I can't
hardly stand it.

Thank you for your posts, Bluebear.

I'm glad to see the words of Coretta Scott King, a true friend of the GLBT community, posted here.

7. Dr. King shaped my political beliefs early.
Free at last, free at last...being progressive means standing up for all humanity, and not calculating whose prejudices to cater to to get votes.

9. Excellent quote
She was a wonderful woman, as was her husband, and just because I am an enthusiastic supporter of Senator Obama, does not mean I am a TROLL!!!
