Trick or Treat? Lieberman Backs Clinton, Trashes Edwards
If it weren't enough that Mrs. Clinton performed poorly at the debate last night, Joe Lieberman comes to Clinton's rescue for Halloween (or an early Guy Fawkes' Day celebration).

In discussing his amendment and defending it, as well as Clinton's vote on it:

Lieberman explained, “I thought it was so direct, factual, based on evidence the U.S. military has given us of the involvement of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps in training and equipping Iraqi extremists who… have been responsible for the killing of hundreds of American soldiers.”

Chuckling a bit, apparently in disbelief, Lieberman asked, “How can you vote against a request that the administration impose economic sanctions on a group that the U.S. military has presented us ample evidence is a terrorist group killing American soldiers?”

Here's Clinton's defense of the vote:

On Tuesday night, Clinton explained her vote by saying, “I’m not in favor of this rush to war, but I’m also not in favor of doing nothing. Iran is seeking nuclear weapons and the Iran Revolutionary Guard is in the forefront of that, as they are in the sponsorship of terrorism.”

Lieberman has to help out "his girl" (for those who of you who think that is sexist, remember Hillary told the AFL-CIO "I'm your girl") with this comment:

Lieberman acknowledged Tuesday that some senators don’t trust Bush, but said, “At some point, we’ve got to get over this distrust and partisanship.”

So, it's no longer that Bush has the ring, all. But someone else does.

Me thinks Al Gore will not be endorsing Hillary Clinton anytime soon.

9. I'd appreciate links
I tried to look before posting this story.

Nonetheless, let's examine the psychology and perceptions of this story.

1) Is it not true that many netrooters believe that Joe Lieberman should have not switched parties from Dems to Independents in order to further his ambitions when he lost to Ned Lamont in the primaries last year?

2) Is it not true that this is a payback to Clinton for supporting his campaign and for voting on his amendment?

3) Is not true that Lieberman backs Bush on the war?

So, if Clinton thinks this is a great association, which also means she's still trying to recover from last night and trying to act like she is already operating in the general election, she will have a time on her hands with the progressive wing of our party. Moreover, it paints her as too hawkish.

FWIW, I have no idea what Edwards thinks of this. But I do know he was the first to call and congratulate Ned Lamont when he won the primary, and came to help campaign for him as well.

Clinton is entitled to a couple of missteps in her campaign; she just didn't think the Kyl-Lieberman vote would hurt her. But the pile-on meme is ridiculous.

...those neocon warmongering freaks stick up for one another.

Does anyone really need anymore evidence that Hillary is a neocon?

DU has almost unanimously understood that Joe Lieberman is a warmonger.
When Hillary votes the same as Lieberman and speaks the same rhetoric,
somehow her supporters manage to look the other way.

Her supporters have looked the other way so many times, I can only
imagine the whiplash.

Now, Lieberman comes to her defense---because people are criticizing
HIS bill (that she voted for) which defines the Iran military as
a terrorist organization.

People are criticizing the bill because it is one more step toward
another lie-based, propagandized, unnecessary war for the neocons.

By defining the a branch of the Iran government as a "terrorist
organization", it not only allows war, but it practically mandates it.
That's all Bush needed--that formal definition of Iran as "terrorist
organization"--to do whatever the hell he wants to Iran, without asking
permission from anyone---not me, not you, not the Congress.
