And why isn't the person who thought it was a good idea for her to moderate not fire yet. My god.

9. Let me follow your logic here...
Bill Kristol likes chocolate ice cream. I like chocolate ice cream. Then I must be a DINO.

16. Since when is the debate moderator supposed to be the star of the show?
She's there to ask questions, not to make herself look good. She asked good questions, did not insert herself into the debate, and did not showboat. I think she did an excellent job.

Perhaps we're so used to the likes of Chris Matthews and Tim Russert, who think the debate is THEIR forum for showing off how clever, smart and tough they are, that we don't appreciate a moderator who just stands there and asks the questions and lets the candidates hold center stage.

17. Who said the moderate had to be the star of the show? I didn't. However, she is part of the show

and if the bar is set so low that a moderater reads questions like a robot its not very engaging to me. Fine with you than so be it.

18. I think the moderator should be nearly invisible - I'm not interested in them being engaging
If I want a show, I'll watch Dancing with the Stars. But when it comes to a debate, I want to focus on the candidates and what they have to say, not worry about whether the moderator is interesting to me.

I'll bet hardly anyone can remember, much less name, the moderators of the 1960 Kennedy-Nixon debates. That's because they didn't see it as their job to shine or get ratings or pump up their own personal EQs. They just asked the questions and allowed the candidates to show themselves to the viewers.

We've gotten so far away from that - it's really sad that people today seem more likely to remember the moderators than the candidates and the questions rather than the answers - and expect it to be that way.
