The "I'm looking forward to you advising me" line
is one of the most beatiful debate smackdowns since Reagan's "experience" line against Mondale in '84 and Bentsen's "You're no Jack Kennedy" line against Quayle in '88. To see Hillary laugh thinking Obama was about to get caught with the question, only to see him smack the laughter out of her mouth with that.

It was beautiful.

good for knocking down the chosen one a few notches or two. She seems witless and stunned compared.

4. Yep, she deserved it. She interrupted with "I want to hear that"
after the question hoping to throw him off. Didn't work and she was left with her foot in her mouth.

it was a good line. It won't be talked about 20 years from now. It probably won't be talked about next week.

Edit: And Clinton laughed harder at it than anyone else - that's not being owned.

17. That was a good line!
Olbermann just showed the clip. It was funny but it didn't seem the audience laughed as much as I thought they would. That was pretty good. I just hope that line doesn't come back and bite Obama in the buttocks.

Why wasn't this debate during prime time?

I guess that Hillary is the only candidate who 'cackles.'

Smacks of, well, you know.

All these candidates are wired to the extreme by simple tension, it is a wonder that they don't all fall apart much of the time.

41. Smacks of?
I'm not all that fond of any of the front runners but my least favorite damned well is Clinton. Anyone who doesn't support her is sexist as you imply above, or they are just blind haters, repub tools, or they are almost anything of the sort other than just people with a difference of opinion.

We've had Bill Clinton, Bush, and any number of others either suspected or accused of drug use when they were young, I don't remember the question "did they sell" ever coming up or crossing anyones mind. Did to a Clinton Staffer with Obama though, so what do we think that smacks of? Why would they suspect it's an issue for him when it hasn't really been asked about others?

We've all seen the "some people say" tactics by FOX news and other outlets where they attack while trying to frame it as if they are just asking what others have been saying when in fact they are establishing the talking points themselves. Well, nobody else was saying it and they hadn't about other candidates in the past either. It was a cheap smear tactic, a "some people say" attempt to establish a new talking point, and anyone who is defending it can't have thought it through.

If Hillary's supporters would have ever just shut up and knock of the "you're a hater, a sexist, a repug tool" crap long enough to HEAR the people who have doubts they might be able to get through to them in some way or to have HER adjust in some way to salve those concerns. But no, that's not how they deal with issues. When she said this was the "fun part" she was telling her people how to behave and we've seen the results of it in the forwarded messages, the "new" poll which was weeks old, the kindergarten bit, and now with this.

Between herself and her own supporters she really doesn't need smart opponents. Self destruction seems almost inevitable by their own acts and methods. Better here in the primaries than in the real thing, I just hope she doesn't hurt another candidate enough that she costs us the election first.

36. BURN!!!!!!!!!!! (uh, has it really come to this?)
It's good to know that Obama can think on his feet in a debate because if he gets the nod he'll need to be able to sling hash with Huck (Mitt, not so much, he's a shitty debater) But how can the "best line" of a debate be an apolitical, irrelevant schoolyard burn? For those of us who closely follow Hillary and Obama's bickering, it might mean something one way or the other. But to the average person watching a debate, they'll just say "huh, that was witty."

A good retort in a debate is MEANINGFUL, not just a well-placed personal jab.

(And, no, Hillary's not my candidate)

37. But Obama blew it ...
... when he followed the line without a smile and by stumbling, making us think that he couldn't explain why he had Clinton people on his campaign. At any rate, I thought Hillary laughing at the question was very real, and Obama's comeback very clever. It was a good exchange, but the media will play it how they want.

He could have bought up the fact that even some of the old Clinton people aren't behind HRC.
