I used to say, "Most Republicans aren't bigots, but
most bigots are Republicans."

But given some of the attitudes expressed by Democrats on DU in the past few months (both intentionally and inadvertently), I'm beginning to wonder.

It's so disappointing to see so many people supposedly on our side sounding just like some of the worst elements on the other side.

1. Which leads me to believe that many people here ARE from the other side...
...and they have found allies here. I share your disgust.

3. If you want to whine about Democratic bigots
please do it on the offensive thread.

Better yet, hit "alert." Bigoted statements are against the rules of common civility and against the rules at DU.

4. Well, I'm certainly glad that you didn't point bigotry out when it occurred,
but rather have chosen to simply announce that you see bigotry and leave it at that. That's much more helpful.

6. What makes you think I haven't?
I've spent considerable time and patience trying to address the amazingly bigoted notions that keep rearing their heads on DU. Unfortunately, the people who get it aren't the ones displaying the bigotry, and the people displaying the bigotry clearly don't get it - and only dig their heels in deeper when challenged.

It's quite pathetic.

7. What Republicans do you know...........
hey I'm the first to admit I might have some bias, but these guys live and breath bigotry. I am amazed at some of the stuff I read, see and hear. Pick a color, nationality, religion, creed, sexual orientation and a Republican will have a joke or a snide comment about which they take great glee in spouting.

8. I know plenty of Republicans who are decent people and are not bigots or evil
Maybe the only Republicans you know are like that, but I assure you, there are plenty - most of them, I believe - who are not anything close to that.

And, as I said, there are a number of Democrats - many of them right here on DU - who are jsut as bigoted and hateful as the Republicans you describe. But for some reason, because they call themselves Democrats, they think they're pure as the driven snow and cannot have their attitudes questioned.

I've encountered quite a bit of racism in my life - and much of it has been at the hands of supposedly "liberal" Democrats. And some of the attitudes I've seen in this very forum are quite consistent with my own experience.
