Edwards Searching for Another South Win

ATLANTA - John Edwards (news - web sites), looking for a second victory after a series of second-place primary finishes, is working hard to find support that can help him close the gap with Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry (news - web sites).

"The people of Georgia want this campaign to go on, don't they?" Edwards said to cheers at a rally in Columbus, Ga., Monday night. He has campaign stops in Atlanta on Tuesday as he seeks to build support in 10 March 2 "Super Tuesday" states.

Edwards has an uphill battle, and advisers were hoping for a strong showing in Georgia to bolster the North Carolina senator's claim that he can deliver southern votes for Democrats in a November match up with President Bush (news - web sites).

He was winning the endorsement of a number of Georgia Democratic state lawmakers on Tuesday at a ceremony at the state capital.
