Just who is Roger Altman anyway (besides being with Kerry)?
I saw him last night on Charlie Rose talking about the economy with two other guests (one from Columbia and CFR, the other from Time), and frankly what he had to say troubled me.

I didn't get the feeling that he knew what to do about the economy, and what ideas he did have were "old school" and not what's needed today.

His basis was get investor and business confidence back (but never addressed how), getting new entrepreneurs to rebuild employment (again not addressed) and job retraining.

He believes that somehow because the US created millions of jobs in the 90s means that we can do it again, but I got the feeling this is faith-based as much as anything. I did not get the impression that he knew how to stop the outsourcing, or cared about stopping it.

1. He's a Wall St Democrat of the Robert Rubin school who was forced
out of office (for some inappropriate statement or action, I don't remember what) as Deputy Treasury Secretary during the Clinton admin.

2. I believe his law firm represented BCCI
And he was charged with crimes in relation to BCCI but was cleared, which makes it interesting that he supports Kerry.

3. Altman was more guilty of being used by intel higher-ups during BCCI
more than guilty of crimes himself. I imagine he respected the way Kerry handled the BCCI investigations.

Altman has long been respected for his economic views.

As far as HOW to restore investor confidence, I am quite sure they are confident of their plan to balance the budget and stimulate the economy through fully funded environmental and infrastructure projects.
