Can you trust any of them?
To listen to Obama in Harlem, he (and, Chris Rock, who introduced him) make it sound like he voted against going into Iraq ... he didn't, he wasn't even at the 'dance' in 2003 ... and, the whole "white lady" thing I find rather disturbing in this day and age.

Further, following the votes he has cast, on Iraq, since he entered the Senate, does not show someone who is as firmly anti-Iraq war as he might want everyone to believe:

Clinton, pretty much the same, without any 'black guy' thing.

And, the clashing of celebrity endorsements I find insulting to the electorate. I don't care who Magic or Oprah or whoever is endorsing.

Bottom line is both are spinning their rhetoric towards whatever audience they are in front of. Watch them on Youtube (search different city/state appearances) and then search their voting records on Project Vote Smart.

It's amazing the discrepancy between what they say and how they act.

I wanted Gore or Feingold to jump in. In my opinion, they were the least likely to 'go with the flow/whatever would get them elected' and their policies matched what I was looking for in a candidate. But, without either in the race, I feel I have to back Edwards - I believe he is the one most likely to do/be able to do what he says he wants to - not out of ambition or need, just because he thinks it is the right thing to do.

3. Search Obama
in Harlem - it was Nov 2007, Chris Rock intro a version is here

It not only brings up race, but implies one should vote for whoever they think should win so they have an 'in'. Like any of us average folk ever have an 'in'. Very cynical and snarky.

I'm more a 'most of us are getting screwed' doesn't matter what color or gender you are - just how much money and 'in' you have - so I will cast my vote for who I think is least likely to pander/play the game.

to make light of such things. It plays into divisions that subtly reinforce racial/gender based judgements.

I've always believed overt racism/sexism was easier to fight, it is obvious and knowing what you're up against is half the battle...and, in most societies, it falls under the weight of the shear stupidity of it all. But, it is the subtle, backroom, behind closed doors, 'in jest', type of racism/sexism that is much harder to overcome.

If there were no real inequities based on race or gender, fine joke about it. But, the fact remains we are not there yet. And, until we are, I'd rather not take a chance.

But, I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit sensitive to these things. I have a very diverse family and have become increasingly frustrated by some of the utter B$ I've seen my loved ones endure over the years.

8. Of course not, they're politicians.
If you're expecting some great and glorious day when your candidate gets elected, you're setting yourelf up for a let down. They'll disappoint in some ways and satisfy in others.

My only hope for any politician is that I'll be happy with thier actions more often than I'll be furious.
