MSNBC's Joe Scarborough appeared in a band onstage with Huckabee?
Footage of this event was shown on MSNBC's "Morning Joe." I didn't hear the details, but was wondering what others thought about this. Would MSNBC approve, for example, Scarborough's co-anchor Mika Brzezinski singing in a group onstage with Hillary?

Not a big deal, as things go -- and Scarborough is more even handed than some in his coverage of the candidates, usually having both good and bad things to say about each of them. But I was just curious if anyone else was watching MSNBC and had more of the story -- and what others thought.

1. Joe said if Kucinich asked him to play on stage , he would.
They even had Huckabee and Wife on this am. I had most of it on mute though.

4. Thanks, once...
I confess I had it on mute, too, and was distracted with something else, which is why I missed the details.

2. Meh. If it was a professional journalist with a history of balanced coverage, I'd be more outraged..
Edited on Wed Jan-02-08 11:23 AM by SteppingRazor
but we're talking about an ex-Republican congressman whose loyalties are obviously still with one side, regardless of the fact that he offers a more even keel than many news talk shows (a point that I agree with you on, for what it's worth).

So, for Joe to appear with Republicans isn't a big deal to me.

Now, if, say, David Gregory were to get up and do a dance with Karl Rove, then I'd be ... oh ... wait ...

Here he's doing Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Huckapoop, on bass, gets down and dirty at the end of the song during the guitar solo. Well he taps his feet a little, anyway. LOL, too funny to think he'd be into that.

Joe Scarborough and Mike Huckabee Sing "Sweet Home Alabama" With Christ's Blessing

Joe Scarborough played rhythm guitar with Mike (the "Huckster") Huckabee at a raucous Tuesday night, January 1, fundraising blow-out in Iowa, as Chuck Norris rambled on about the unfairness of taxes. Now what could be more of a testament to how "news," politics and entertainment have merged than this bizarre popular culture scene (known as Republican "populism," kind of a cross between a drive-in church and "Andy Griffith")?

The "Huckster" made sure to let everyone know that the event -- in which, we swear, he "jokingly" exhorted his supporters to let the air out of the tires or disable the batteries of cars belonging to his opponents so that they could not vote on Thursday night -- was blessed by Christ: "We cannot do it by arming ourselves and taking anyone out. We will go to the caucuses having knelt on our knees and having asked God for his wisdom."

So here was the culmination of what our political media-political-entertainment church circus has become: a former GOP Florida panhandle congressman turned television political commentator doing the Lee Atwater ("I'm really just a downhome rock n' roll guy at heart") thing with the Elmer Gantry of this year's election, joined onstage by Hollywood's white male tough guy fantasy. That's some combo deal, but it says everything about how we have become a nation that can't distinguish public policy from entertainment. It's ALL a show, and the "Huckster" is quite the entertainer.

Not that Mrs. Huckabee wants to be left out of the fun:“I can’t wait to be your first lady because I think it is going to be too cool, and we are going to have too much fun,” Janet Huckabee said. Party down.

Before Joe Scarborough joined MSNBC, we best remember him for an Internet surge of speculation about a female office aide who was mysteriously found dead in his Florida congressional office. It was shortly before or after "family man" Scarborough's divorce. Rumors were rampant, including that Joe S. was quite the Romeo.

We don't know whether Scarborough supports Huckabee or was just burnishing up his own "hip" celebrity credentials. Nowadays, you can't distinguish the politicians from the people who cover them, particularly since it's one big entertainment enterprise.

17. From Inside Cable News
The Dallas Morning News’ David Levinthal writes about Mike Huckabee at an Iowa rally. There’s one small part in it that raised a big red flag…

Then Mr. Huckabee showed up with a bass guitar. And a band, with MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough on rhythm guitar. And they started playing “Sweet Home Alabama.” Mr. Norris stood to the side, hands in bluejeans pockets, bopping to the beat. The scene would be like a bad acid trip for a diehard Democrat.

What is Scarborough doing anywhere near a Huckabee rally in what can only be observed as an advocacy position? This morning Huckabee was on Morning Joe. I can just see people asking themselves whether Scarborough’s appearance with Huckabee had any bearing on Huckabee’s appearance on “Morning Joe”. It probably didn’t. But that’s not the point. The point is it gives the appearance of a quid pro quo even if none exists.

Doesn’t NBC News have some sort of firewall conflict of interest policy about that sort of behavior? If it was Sean Hannity doing that it would be all over the blue blogs about how FNC was letting Hannity run amock. We’ve already had conflict of interest charges thrown at CNN because of James Carville’s close association to Hillary Clinton and rumors that he may be advising her campaign.

Update: According to the comments, Hannity is crossing the line with regards to Rudolph Giuliani.
