I salute you MethuenProgressive for a concise and superb post.
I have always preferred the so-called second tier candidates. Sometimes when you watch the TV or pick up a paper it is as if they do not exist. Perhaps I had imagined that three wonderful, experienced Democrats were running for president in 2008?
Perhaps I had imagined that the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and the man who wrote the Violence Against Women Act and was influential in the ending of genocide and the fall of Milosevic, was running?
Perhaps I had imagined that a man who founded the first Children's Caucus in the senate, was named "Senator of the Decade" by the National Head Start Association, and is a renowned expert in Latin and South American affairs, as well as being chairman of the Senate Banking Committee, was running?
Perhaps I had imagined that a man with experience as a congressman, a governor, the Ambassador to the United Nations, the Secretary of Energy, and had been nominated five times for a Nobel Peace Prize, was running?
Allow me to imagine one more thing..........that one of them breaks through in Iowa and ends up as president of the United States.
