W&L students predict Clinton victory in Iowa
By the Associated Press
January 2, 2008

LEXINGTON, Va. - Students at Washington & Lee University are predicting that Hillary Clinton will win the support of Iowa voters in Democratic caucuses later this week.

The prediction Wednesday is a prelude to the school's 2008 Democratic Mock Convention later this month.

Convention organizers say they think Clinton will narrowly hold off challenges by Senator Barack Obama and former Senator John Edwards. They say their prediction is based on research conducted over the past year.

The gathering is the most accurate student-run mock convention in the nation. It has had 18 correct predictions out of 32 attempts, with only one incorrect call since 1948. The convention January 25 and 26 will be the school's 100th

1. I like the nod for Hillary but I'm having trouble with the math here
Has math changed since I went to college? Or am I missing something? How does 18 correct out of 32 attempts = 1 wrong? :)

3. The other 13 may have been prior to 1948.
That would explain the math. 14 wrong total, but only one since 1948.

5. Well...duh. I overlooked the obvious.
 I shouldn't try to read for comprehension and cook dinner at the same time.
In my defense, I really am HUNGRY! :)

9. That's interesting
the DLC crowd are kind of turning back the clock pre-1948- or earlier, lost in the mists of GOP corporate
rule in the Gilded Age. Actually this is interesting. Usually polls like that reflect a steady segment of the state like parents or families that indicate the real public sentiment. WHY and HOW that is or isn't the case is more important than a poll where a groundhog sees the shadow of Ed Muskie or something. Ignoring the real grounds for this poll makes it into just another rabbit's foot. Also, the campaigns may have radically altered their approach to the strategy- or simply bought a lot of boxed, drugged lunches for the Conventioneers with a candidate's face pasted inside..
