I don't mean that as a criticism. Just my own observation. But Obama's speech isn't doing anything for me.

6. Me either.
Just saying the word "change" isn't meaningful
because they're all saying it.

I want him to speak for me, for the poor and
working classes, and for specific meaningful
actions and policies that would actually mean
something.

7. It didn't do much for me either.
But he has never moved or inspired me, at least not yet. Nothing personal against him or his message. Some politicans move me, like Dean, some don't. He sound more like a preacher most of the time and it turns me off.

9. I've been saying that all along...I need something more than some vague idea of hope
to get me to vote for Obama.

Give me specifics!!! He's really trying to B.S. his way to the White House.

11. I have children......
so it works for me.

Inspiration is one of the best asset a politician can have.

The office of the president is to get things done through concensus and the Bully pulpit....
That's what leadership is all about.

14. I wouldn't go so far as to compare him to the White House Chimp
Edited on Thu Jan-03-08 11:26 PM by BlueStater
But I find his whole "hope" and "change" theme completely vague and uninspiring.

He's a good speaker and little else.

13. He doesn't do anything for me, either.
If he said that he wasn't going to dump Social Security I might be more pleased.

If he spoke the truth to Big Coal, I might be more pleased, too.

16. If he's President...I'll avoid listening to him just like with Bush
His, "Look, we need to stand up to the special interests...." CLICHE statements about everything is really tiring.

19. Maybe you made the mistake of looking for something of substance
I really don't have anything against Obama as such, it's just that he's being made into something that he is not. He is not an FDR, he's not a JFK, he really isn't much of anything, apart from being a genuinely nice and smart man who speaks well, but otherwise does not have many original ideas or plans for this country. Apparently after the 2004 convention and his election to the Senate, "advisors" started blowing smoke up his ass and have now convinced him that his true parents were Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr., or at least convinced him that he can convince us . . .

21. I don't think I'm cynical,
but I'm not looking for hope, and I'm not looking for someone to inspire me. All I want is a hard-nosed politician who will fight to give me affordable health care, get the troops out of Iraq, and repair the social, environmental and foreign policy issues that Bush destroyed.

After bush, I want to stack Congress with Democrats and screw bipartisanship, and conciliation. The GOP always takes that as weakness IMO. Anyway, I believe Clinton is tough enough to get the government to serve my needs, but I'm not convinced Obama can.

We'll see, I don't dislike him, but 'red and blue' together isn't my hope and isn't the change I'm looking for.

22. I'm an Edwards supporter but that was one hellova speech by Obama
It reminded me of the "keep hope alive" Jesse Jackson speech and the "Man from Hope" Bill Clinton spot at the 92 Convention. It was a barn burner.

I'm not cynical...I'm a realist. I don't want to negotiate with Republicans, and Obama won't bring about change. He just won't.

26. needless to say, i disagree.
It is kind of sad to hear people depressed about a message of optimism that is attracting so much enthusiasm from a broad section of the political landscape. I understand your disappointment, only one person can win, but the breadth of support for Obama now seems pretty clear, and I really don't understand the segment of people that feel left out.

If you're mad about the stance of his rally guests on gay rights, I can see that, but to say you just don't get it, or that there is nothing there, when there is obviously something there and people are getting it...I don't understand where the confidence comes from that all us fellow progressives are in some sort of religious ether on this.
