1. No. Shame is the anti communication. It just makes people shut up. nt

2. Using shame to change an opinion is like trying to teach a pig
to sing grand opera. It doesn't work and the pig resents it.

However, I have gotten people to look at issues in new ways, from different perspectives, and I have changed opinions that way. They have to be people with opinions, though, not dogma.

Trying to change dogma is like mud wrestling with a pig. You get all dirty and the pig likes it.

3. The problem with shaming is the person may feel they must
at that moment Say they have changed their opinion. Their
heart was not changed and often they just dig in privately
never changing or find others who agree with him.

For this reason I do not care for trying to shame people.

This has brought about a lot of division in this country.

5. In the green line here - NGU! Never Give Up -

As long as there are people in this world who drive Hummers. As long as there are people who drive Hummers while talking on cell phones. As long as there are people who drive Hummers to which they have affixed at the rear a set of hanging plastic "balls" - I will never give up.

As long as there are full-grown adults for whom hyperviolent video games are a key component of their entertertainment consumption. As long as there are apologists for those "sweetie-pies", the pit bulls ("It's not just pit bulls! Plus, they don't even exist as a breed!") As long as there are people who like to laugh at "fire-in-the-hole" sodapop throwbacks at the guy working the drive-up window, my course shall be resolute and unwavering: I have not yet begun to shame!

To the idiots, to the anti-humanists, to the people for whom bad taste is a deeply-held guilding principle, our shaming at least sends a message, a powerful message: in essense we are declaring, "WE DON'T DRINK WITH YOU!" Here we stand! God help us, we can do no other!
