I'm gonna go ahead and say it, Huckabilly may not be a pushover
He's not the brightest guy, but he's more of a natural politician than any of the other GOP candidates. If he does indeed continue to make the gaffes that he is making now once he is the nominee, any Democrat will be able to walk all over him on foreign policy and that will make it tough for him to win.

But here's my fear. If he does indeed get the nomination he may very well have the same people behind him that were able to make Bush look like a strong commander-in-chief. They can write talking points for him on foreign policy and he can memorize the script. He won't look great but he'll be good enough that people won't be worried that he's totally incapable of being commander-in-chief.

Yea I'd rather go up against Huckabilly right now than McLame or Romney. He's clearly not ready for prime time. But after he's groomed by the best strategists in the GOP, he may indeed be ready for prime time.

1. Huckabee is a little distraction from the real deal - a hard ass
full blown right wing McCain push. It's already started.

is a bigger meltdown than any personal charisma he could possibly muster. This is the GOP, not the Dems!

3. Wall Street will never let him win.
Although I've been warning here for months that he was not to be overlooked, the money interest of the Republican Party ( and believe me, THEY are the real Republicans) are never going to let this guy go very far. He's waaay too dangerous for the program.

16. DON'T COUNT ON WALL STREET TO STOP HUCKABEE!
Wall Street will be happy to let the Huckster become President as long as they are sure he can be bribed or blackmailed.
They don't have a problem with Fuckabee setting up a theocracy as long as the rules don't apply to THEM.
They would love a Christian version of Saudi Arabia, as long as they get to be the sheikhs.

5. He's a very smart guy and he knows exactly what he wants
and as we've seen, he'll do anything to get it.
While he's putting on his awe-shucks nice guy
act, he's turning the blade into someone else's back.

Listen to Huckabee closely, This is not a good man at all.

Huckabee is the worst, and he could win. If Huckabee wins, the Dominionists take over America.
That is, if he doesn't try to bring on the "Rapture" :nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke::nuke:

8. Huckabee is far stronger than Romney especially in battleground states
Huckabee would be strong as death in battleground states like Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona, Colorado and central Florida. Huckabee could be fundies answer to Bill Clinton.

13. If He Can Take Most of Those States We're Toast
The only chance to stop Huckabee is in the primaries.
It will take lots of Dems crossing over to vote in the Repig primary — for anyone who is not Huckabee.
The hard part is who would we vote FOR? They're all awful. I guess Mittens is slightly less awful than the others, and hopefully beatable.

9. Huckabee has the fundies behind him
They are almost all that is left of the republican party. It will be no suprise if they push him into the Nomination. He will fold completely in the general however when stacked up against either hillary or Obama.

10. I see it the same way.

He'll need the big money backers to go forward and that type of support hasn't solidified. He could be "chosen" and he already appeals to many Evangelicals. We've seen this before.......

14. The real test will be whether he can get support beyond the evangelicals
And he is certainly trying. I watched his event in New Hampshire today, it was very well done and he didn't mention religion much if any at all.

He calculated correctly that if the Evangelicals showed up, they would give him Iowa. So he said everything that needed to be said to get them to turn out. Now I think we're going to hear a lot less about how religious Mike Huckabee is as he knows the Evangelicals won't put him over the top everywhere else.

18. I agree with you
Even though I ridicule him, and don't agree with his views, he shouldn't be underestimated.

After seeing his speech last night, I realized he's very articulate, and his "aw shucks" persona is very appealing to many.

If he were to be the GOP nominee, believe me the party would get in lockstep behind him.

He's certainly vice presidential material for the Republicans. As a presidential candidate I THINK he would come up short but then I THOUGHT Edwards would win Iowa so what do I l know?

the Huckster made sure there was no investigation.

Wait till my fundie sister-in-law hears about that. She and her doggy-loving friends will be ready to tar and feather Hucklebee.

He must be stopped before he grows stronger.

24. So tell me...
When will Democrats stop clobbering each other over the head...

and form a strong unbreakable united front against this all-too-real threat?

AFL-CIO blog quoted Huckabee with glowing approval. He gets it, really gets it about unions -- and he is the ONLY Republican that does. Case you didn't know (but of course you did) plenty of rank and file union members vote Republican these days.

Huckabee scares the living crap out of me. From GWB to ultra-fundie... ain't an unnatural progression. It could in fact be the next logical step in America's transition to full-fledged Christo-fascism.

:puke:

(did anyone else watch The News Hour? Shucks, before Huckster got where he was going, he done won the whole "goldang state"!!! His exact words. Hope everyone's well-stocked on emergency barf bags)

25. we, in the democratic party, always underestimate
Edited on Sat Jan-05-08 12:34 AM by ldf
the number of americans who hate:

anyone who doesn't go to THEIR church
unsubmissive women who refuse to know their place
any skin color that is not a pasty beige
anyone who speaks with an accent (other than southern, of course)
and of course, ALL homosexuals

these people filled with hate are what i classify as true "white trash".

normally it is assumed that white trash are poor. but it doesn't matter how much money they have. in fact, the only thing worse than white trash, is white trash with money. (why does the bush clan come to mind?)

and these people ALWAYS show up to VOTE.

lockstep.

if huckabee is the repuke nominee, they will come out IN FORCE.

meanwhile, democrats, who have the uncanny ability to, time after time, snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory, will smugly assume the election will be a cakewalk for the democratic nominee.

and then we are always surprised by the result.

go figure.

a disclaimer: i'm white, male, from the south, grew up dirt poor, was raised in a fundamental church of christ, have lived in multiple trailers (also know as moBILE homes).

edited to add: AND A HOMOSEXUAL!!!

BUT...

being poor and white doesn't make you white trash. you don't even have to be southern (it DOES help :-) ). but you ARE white, and you are so unhappy with your own life that the only way you can feel good about yourself is to put others down. sometimes it is due, in part, to a lack of education, but usually it is due to a RESISTANCE to an education that opens up minds.

lack of an open mind is a requirement for white trash.

and which party does the huge majority of racists, bigots, sexists and homophobes identify with?

and MAKE A POINT TO VOTE FOR?

yes, we always underestimate.
