There is no doubt, at least IMO, that John McCain is the Republican that we dont want to face. He does the best against dems in all head to head polls, and is still respected by many, even though he's just George Bush all over again when it comes to the war. John McCain is in a dog fight with Romney in NH and it is time to suck it up and root for Romney so McCain's run can finally end. Romney and Huckabee are a hell of a lot easier to beat than McCain, so...Go Ultra Scumbag!!

2. I'm not rooting for any of the tools.
I'm rooting for Democrats. Go figure.

I get your point, though. But Huckabee and Romney are total disasters (especially Huckabee). I'd rather have McCain.

14. No, because one of the disasters might win.
We don't have this thing sewed up. After Bush was re-elected in 2004, we learned that Repukes can be elected in America now matter how god-awful they are.

I'm optimistic, but not foolhardy. I don't to want to gamble with those stakes.

4. McCain's warmongering will provide a stark difference between the
Dems and rethugs. That also goes for any rethug who prevails.

6. McCain this year reminds me of a slightly more appealing Bob Dole, circa 1996.
He is beatable but he would pose the greatest challenge to the Dems.

Let's go Huckster! Let's go Mittens!

When a cowboy win puts us in a better position, and I did this earlier in the month.

7. McCain is Dole redux
I'd much rather face him than Huckabee. Romney is already a dead man walking.

9. I was already there, hnmnf
But thanks for pointing this out. Looks like McCain just went ahead in the NH polls. :-( He's picked up steam there since mid-December.

13. I'm hoping there'll be some good old nasty infighting among Republicans...
Evidently, the so-called "Christian right" is fighting with the "moderates," if I understand it correctly. They're grappling with electability, and "conservative values," and personal histories of their candidates.

I hope it creates some nice deep divisions that frustrate some large percentage of them and keeps them HOME (or voting for a third party!).

15. Here's the ugly truth
We can't beat ANY Repuke unless we run a good solid campaign and learn from the mistakes of 2004. Americans are tired of the GOP, but not quite tired enough to make Democrats an attractive alternative. It would take a hell of lot to make that happen in today's right-wing America, so we need to get our own act together rather than worrying about who will be easiest to beat. We can't beat any of them unless we take control of the public debate and make our case effectively.

All you have to do is keep running the quote with him saying we need to be in Iraq for 100 yrs. He'll be done.

18. That and his Beach Boys song
It boggles the mind that he polls as well as he does.

I think Huckabee is much slicker, and that the contrast between McCain and Obama would work for Barack.

17. If you root enough for your Ultra Scumbag, you may get him
Obama's victory was a surprise in Iowa. Expect the unexpected.

Much simpler and ethical to only root for those in whom you believe, and let the others self-destruct. McCain's very capable of doing that.

19. I think McCain is only effective in small doses.
He faded away a bit when he ran out of money and now people have started to come back to him. I don't think he fares well with a lot of attention. Kinda like Fred Thompson.

I'm nervous about Romney the most. He might be able to put together a coalition without the fundies that could win the general.

On the other hand, despite Giuliani's flaws, I don't see any of the other Repubs beating him at this point. Who's going to beat him in NY, NJ, Florida, and California? That's a lot of delegates right there.
