Hillary advisers fear N.H. loss

Hillary Rodham Clinton
Clinton’s campaign holds back on anti-Obama spots while she makes a new play for younger voters.

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Sen. Hillary Clinton’s strategists, desperate for a win in New Hampshire, have decided against unleashing attack ads against Sen. Barack Obama before Tuesday’s primary, Democratic sources said.

The senator’s aides concluded that negative advertising would not work in the compressed time frame between Iowa and New Hampshire, adding to their worries about their ability to change a media and political environment that is embracing Obama as a historic figure. The campaign also worries that fallout from an all-out attack on Obama could harm Clinton’s plans to turn the Democratic race into a grueling marathon.

2. Know why they should fear a NH Loss?
because Hillary will fire most of them if she loses NH. They've been bullshitting her that NH was in the bag, her "firewall", and today they find themselves down by double digits with one day to go. BECAUSE THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO RUN AN EFFECTIVE CAMPAIGN.

I hope she sacks the lot of them, starting with Penn.

13. Hillary needs to keep the same team with her until February 6th...
...then she can fire them after she drops out of the race.

15. I think she needs to sack herself...
...because it wasn't Mark Penn who voted for the IWR, or Kyl-Lieberman, or who said "lobbyists are people, too" or that people should just "get over" her authorization of the Iraq war. And, even it he was the one who designed the "it's all about me" campaign focus, HRC was the one to O.K. it, and go on to exude the sense of arrogant entitlement that so turned people off.

Sorry, but it isn't just that she's got a flawed campaign, it's that she's a flawed candidate -- one who would never have gotten to this position if her husband wasn't William Jefferson Clinton. And that's not enough of a reason to hand her the highest office in the land.

17. And I really don't understand...
Edited on Mon Jan-07-08 12:29 AM by TwoSparkles
...how an intelligent, politically seasoned woman like Hillary could have run
a campaign like this.

How in the world did this happen?

It was SO bad here in Iowa...it's one for the textbooks.

"The worst PR blow outs of our time, two case studies: The response to the Challenger disaster; and Hillary Clinton's 08 campaign".

Really remarkable.

Was it really all Mark Penn? Why didn't Bill stop this?

I just can't believe that Bill Clinton would have agreed that it was smart for Hillary to plant questions in Iowa
and then run a closed-down campaign where she ran away after her speeches and didn't take questions.

I guess they all figured that she had it in the bag, and that they should play it safe.

10. Hear something about a mailer or something?
Thought I caught a whisper about it...

Mail buys have to drop earlier than TV ads. Given the truly nasty bit of work that the mailer was, I think it's quite credible that there was a negative TV campaign planned.

20. The same article says that if they lose NH, they will lose NV and SC
Hillary camp is fearful of losing the support of a powerful Nevada union, which will announce who they will support the day after the NH primary.

23. Great way to reduce expectations
The way polling is trending, the media narrative about Obama being unstoppable, etc. if Obama doesn't win big it will be dissappointing. Then Hillary can portray herself as the "comeback gal."

26. It's just like the week or so before Iowa
There were a lot of little parrots on here talking about how Iowa isn't important in the first place, so it's okay if Hillary doesn't win there.
